Wirelessinteroperability

TheM.2wirelessLANcardisdesignedtobeinteroperablewithanywirelessLANproductthatisbased

onDirectSequenceSpreadSpectrum(DSSS),ComplementaryCodeKeying(CCK),and/orOrthogonal

FrequencyDivisionMultiplexing(OFDM)radiotechnology,andiscomplianttothe802.11b/gStandard,

802.11a/b/g,802.11nor802.11aconWirelessLANs,asdeﬁnedandapprovedbytheInstituteofElectrical

andElectronicsEngineers.

Integratedwirelesscardsemitradiofrequencyelectromagneticenergylikeotherradiodevices.However,the

levelofenergyemittedisfarmuchlessthantheelectromagneticenergyemittedbywirelessdeviceslike

forexamplemobilephones.

Duetothefactthatintegratedwirelesscardsoperatewithintheguidelinesfoundinradiofrequencysafety

standardsandrecommendations,Lenovobelievestheyaresafeforusebyconsumers.Thesestandardsand

recommendationsreﬂecttheconsensusofthescientiﬁccommunityandresultfromdeliberationsofpanels

andcommitteesofscientistswhocontinuallyreviewandinterprettheextensiveresearchliterature.

Insomesituationorenvironment,theuseofintegratedwirelesscardsmightberestrictedbytheproprietor

ofthebuildingorresponsiblerepresentativesoftheorganization.Thesesituationsandareasmightfor

exampleinclude:

•Usingtheintegratedwirelesscardsonboardofairplanes,inhospitalsornearpetrolstations,blasting

areas(withelectro-explosivedevices),medicalimplantsorbody-wornelectronicmedicaldevices,such

aspacemakers.

•Inanyotherenvironmentwheretheriskofinterferencetootherdevicesorservicesisperceivedor

identiﬁedasharmful.

Ifyouareuncertainofthepolicythatappliestotheuseofwirelessdevicesinaspeciﬁcorganization(suchas

airportorhospital),youareencouragedtoaskforauthorizationtouseintegratedwirelesscardspriorto

turningonthecomputer.
