•Keepyourcomputermorethan13cmor5inchesawayfrommagnets,activatedcellularphones,
electricalapplicances,orspeakers.
•Avoidsubjectingyourcomputertoextremetemperatures(below5°C/41°Forabove35°C/95°F).
•Someappliances,suchascertainportabledesktopfansorairpuriers,producenegativeions.Ifa
computerisclosetosuchanappliance,andisexposedforanextendedtimetoaircontainingnegative
ions,itmightbecomeelectrostaticallycharged.Suchachargemightbedischargedthroughyourhands
whenyoutouchthekeyboardorotherpartsofthecomputer,orthroughconnectorsonI/Odevices
connectedtoit.Eventhoughthiskindofelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)istheoppositeofadischargefrom
yourbodyorclothingtothecomputer,itposesthesameriskofacomputermalfunction.
Yourcomputerisdesignedandmanufacturedtominimizeanyeffectsofelectrostaticcharge.Anelectrostatic
chargeaboveacertainlimit,however,increasestheriskofESD.Therefore,whenusingthecomputerclose
toanappliancethatproducesnegativeions,givespecialattentiontothefollowing:
•Avoiddirectlyexposingyourcomputertotheairfromanappliancethatproducesnegativeions.
•Keepyourcomputerandperipheralsasfaraspossiblefromsuchanappliance.
•Whereverpossible,groundyourcomputertofacilitatesafeelectrostaticdischarge.
Note:Notallsuchappliancescauseasignicantelectrostaticcharge.
Begentlewithyourcomputer
•Avoidplacinganyobjects(includingpaper)betweenthedisplayandthekeyboardorthepalmrest.
•Donotopenthedisplaybeyond130degrees,asthismightdamagethecomputerhinge.
•Donotturnyourcomputeroverwhiletheacpoweradapterispluggedin.Thiscouldbreaktheadapter
plug.
Carryyourcomputerproperly
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,besuretoremoveanymedia,turnoffattacheddevices,anddisconnect
cordsandcables.
•Beforemovingyourcomputer,ensurethatitisinsleeporhibernationmode,orturnedoff.Thisprevents
damagetotheharddiskdriveandavoidsdataloss.
•Whenpickingupyouropencomputer,holditbythebottom.Donotpickuporholdyourcomputerby
thedisplay.
•Useaqualitycarryingcasethatprovidesadequatecushionandprotection.Donotpackyourcomputerin
atightlypackedsuitcaseorbag.
Foroutdooruse
•Backupyourcriticaldatabeforeyoutakeyourcomputeroutdoors.
•Ensurethatthebatteryisfullycharged.
•BesuretoturnoffthepowerandclosetheLCDwhennotinuse.
•Whenyouleavethecomputerinyourcar,placeitonthebackseattoavoidbeinginsolated.
•Carrytheacpoweradapterandpowercordwiththecomputer.
Handlestoragemediaanddrivesproperly
•Ifyourcomputercomeswithanopticaldrive,donottouchthesurfaceofadiscorthelensonthetray.
•WaituntilyouheartheCDorDVDclickintothecenterpivotofthedrivebeforeclosingthetray.
•Wheninstallingtheharddiskdrives,followtheinstructionsshippedwithyourhardware,andapply
pressureonlywhereneededonthedevice.
•Turnoffyourcomputerifyouarereplacingtheharddiskdrive.
