Specication(SMBIOS)V2.6.1.SMBIOSprovidesinformationaboutthehardwarecomponentsofyour
system.ItistheresponsibilityoftheBIOStosupplythisdatabasewithinformationaboutitselfandthe
devicesonthesystemboard.ThisspecicationdocumentsthestandardsforgettingaccesstothisBIOS
information.
PrebooteXecutionEnvironment
PrebooteXecutionEnvironment(PXE)technologymakesyourcomputermoremanageable(itisPXE
2.1-compliant)byenablingittoboot(loadanoperatingsystemoranotherexecutableimage)fromaserver.
YourcomputersupportsthePCfunctionsthatPXErequires.Forexample,withtheappropriateLANcard,
yourcomputercanbebootedfromthePXEserver.
Note:RemoteProgramLoad(RPL)cannotbeusedwithyourcomputer.
WakeonLAN
AnetworkadministratorcanuseWakeonLANtoturnonacomputerfromamanagementconsole.
WhenWakeonLANisusedwithnetworkmanagementsoftware,manyfunctions,suchasdatatransfer,
softwareupdates,andFlashupdatesofUEFIBIOS,canbeperformedremotelywithoutremoteattendance.
Thisupdatingprocesscanbedoneafternormalworkinghoursandonweekends,tosavetimeandincrease
productivity.Usersarenotinterruptedduringnormalworkinghours,andLANtrafciskepttoaminimum.
IfacomputeristurnedonbytheWakeonLANfunction,theNetworkBootsequenceisused.
AssetIDEEPROM
TheAssetIDEEPROMcontainsinformationaboutthesystem,includingitscongurationandtheserial
numbersofkeycomponents.Italsoincludesanumberofblankeldsinwhichyoucanrecordinformation
abouttheendusersinyournetwork.
Settingmanagementfeatures
Toenablethenetworkadministratortocontrolyourcomputerremotely,youmustcongurethenetwork
interfacebysettingthesystem-managementfeaturesintheThinkPadSetupprogram.Youcancongure
thefollowingfunctionsintheprogram:
•WakeonLAN
•Networkbootsequence
•Flashupdate
Ifanadministrator'spassword(supervisorpassword)hasbeenset,youwillneedtospecifyitwhenyou
starttheThinkPadSetuptousethesefunctions.
WakeonLAN
WhentheWakeonLANfeatureisenabledonacomputerthatisconnectedtoaLAN,anetworkadministrator
canstartthecomputerremotelyfromamanagementconsole,usingremotenetwork-managementsoftware.
Whenyourcomputerisnotunderthenetworkadministrator'ssystemmanagement,youcandisableWake
onLAN.
ToenableordisableWakeonLAN,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheThinkPadSetup.
2.SelectCong.TheCongsubmenuisdisplayed.
