2.Dothefollowingtolocatethedownloadablelesforyourmachinetype:
a.IntheEnteraproductnumbereld,typeyourmachinetypeandclickGo.
b.ClickDownloadsanddrivers.
c.SelectBIOSintheReneresultseldtoeasilylocatealltheBIOSrelatedlinks.
d.ClicktheBIOSupdatelink.
e.ClicktheTXTlethatcontainstheinstructionsforupdating(ashing)BIOSfromyouroperating
system.
3.Printtheseinstructions.Thisisveryimportantbecausetheyarenotonthescreenafterthedownload
begins.
4.Followtheprintedinstructionstodownload,extract,andinstalltheupdate.
RecoveringfromaPOST/BIOSupdatefailure
IfpowertoyourcomputerisinterruptedwhilethePOST/BIOSisbeingupdated(ashupdate),your
computermightnotrestartcorrectly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingprocedurecommonlycalled
Boot-blockRecovery.
1.Turnoffthecomputerandanyattacheddevices,suchasprinters,monitors,andexternaldrives.
2.Unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets,andremovethecomputercover.Referto“Removingthe
cover”intheThinkStationHardwareInstallationandReplacementGuide.
3.Accessthesystemboard.Referto“Accessingsystemboardcomponents”intheThinkStationHardware
InstallationandReplacementGuide.
4.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.Referto“Identifyingpartsonthesystem
board”intheThinkStationHardwareInstallationandReplacementGuide.
5.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
6.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)topin2andpin3.
7.Reconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.Referto“Completingthepartsreplacement”inthe
ThinkStationHardwareInstallationandReplacementGuide.
8.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectrical
outlets.
9.Turnonthecomputerandthemonitor.InsertthePOST/BIOSupdate(ash)discintotheopticaldrive.
10.Turnthecomputeroffandbackonagain.
11.Therecoverysessionwilltaketwotothreeminutes.Duringthistimeyouwillhearaseriesofbeeps.
Aftertheupdatesessioniscompleted,therewillbenovideo,theseriesofbeepswillend,andthe
systemwillautomaticallyturnoff.Removethediscfromtheopticaldrive.
12.Repeatsteps2through5.
13.ReplacetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumpertothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).
14.Reconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.Referto“Completingthepartsreplacement”inthe
ThinkStationHardwareInstallationandReplacementGuide.
15.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectrical
outlets.
16.Turnonthecomputertorestarttheoperatingsystem.
