Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettingson
Windows7orWindowsVista,allthelescurrentlyonthesystemdriveortheharddiskdrivewillbe
deletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectyourbootmedium(memorykeyorUSBhard
diskdrive)toyourcomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintoyourCDorDVDdrive.
2.Restartyourcomputer.
3.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheStartupDevice
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
4.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,selecttheproperstartupdeviceandpressEnter.
Afterashortdelay,theProductRecoveryprogramopens.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.Afterrestoringthecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,
youmighthavetoreinstallsomesoftwareprogramsordevicedrivers.See“Installingorreinstalling
devicedrivers”onpage37
fordetails.
•TouseProductRecoverydiscsonWindowsXP ,dothefollowing:
Attention:WhenyouuseProductRecoverydiscstorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings
onWindowsXP ,allthelescurrentlyontheharddiskdrivewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactory
defaultsettings.Duringtherestoreprocess,youwillbegiventheoptiontosaveoneormorelescurrently
ontheharddiskdrivetoothermediabeforethedataisdeleted.
1.InsertthebootdiscintoyourCDorDVDdrive.
2.Restartyourcomputer.
3.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheStartupDevice
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
4.SelecttheCDorDVDdriveasthestartupdeviceandpressEnter.Afterashortdelay,theRescue
andRecoveryworkspaceopens.
5.FromtheRescueandRecoverymenu,clickRestoreyoursystem.
6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations
TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourharddiskdrivecontentsincludingthe
operatingsystem,datales,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcandesignatewherethe
RescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:
•Onaprotectedareaofyourharddiskdrive
•Onasecondaryharddiskdriveinstalledinyourcomputer
•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive
•Onanetworkdrive
•OnrecordableCDsorDVDs(arecordableCDorDVDdriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsontheharddiskdrive,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe
harddiskdrive,restoreonlytheselectedles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandapplications.
