Symptom:TheUSBconnectorscannotbeaccessed.
Actions:
•MakesuretheUSBcableissecurelyconnectedtotheUSBconnectorandtotheUSBdevice.IftheUSB
devicehasitsownpowercord,makesureitisattachedtoaproperlygroundedelectricaloutlet.
•IftheUSBdevicehasitsownOn/Offswitch,makesureitisintheOnposition.
•IftheUSBdevicehasanOnlineswitch,makesureitisintheOnlineposition.
•IftheUSBdeviceisaprinter,makesurepaperisloadedcorrectly.
•MakesureanydevicedriversorothersoftwaresuppliedwiththeUSBdeviceiscorrectlyinstalled.
RefertothedocumentationfortheUSBdevice.
•ResetthedevicebydetachingandreattachingtheUSBconnector.
Iftheseactionsdonotcorrecttheproblem,runthediagnosticprogramstotesttheUSBconnector(see
“Diagnosticprograms”onpage108forinstructions).IftheUSBdevicecamewithitsowndiagnostics,run
thosediagnosticsagainsttheUSBdevice.Ifyouneedtechnicalassistance,seeChapter11“Getting

Diagnosticprogramsareusedtotesthardwarecomponentsofyourcomputer.Diagnosticprogramscan
alsoreportoperating-system-controlledsettingsthatinterferewiththecorrectoperationofyourcomputer.
Youcanusethepreinstalleddiagnosticprogramtodiagnosecomputerproblems,ifyourcomputeris
runningtheWindowsoperatingsystem.
