Note:Whenreplacingthesystemboardyoumustalsoorderanewretentionmoduleforthenewsystem
board.Makesureyouhavearetentionmoduleforthenewsystemboardbeforecontinuingwiththis
procedure.
Thissectionprovidesinformationonhowtoremoveandreplacethesystemboard.
Toremoveorreplacethesystemboard,dothefollowing:
1.Removethecover.See"Removingthecover"onpage94.
2.Liftthefanductofftheheatsinkfan.
3.RemoveanyPCIadaptercardsinstalledinthePCIconnectors.
4.Youmighthavetoremovethedrivebayassemblytoaccessthesystemboard.See"Accessingsystem
boardcomponentsanddrives"onpage96.
5.Takenoteofthelocationofallcableconnectionsonthesystemboardanddisconnectallcables.See
"Locatingpartsonthesystemboard"onpage95.
6.Removetheharddiskdrive.See"Replacingtheharddiskdrive"onpage106.
7.Removethescrewsthatsecurethesystemboardtothechassis.
8.Liftthesystemboardoutofthechassis.
9.Removethememorymodulesfromthefailingsystemboardandinstalltheminthesamelocationon
thenewsystemboard.
10.Rotatehandle1toreleasetheheatsinkclampandthendisengagetheclampfromtheplasticretention
bracket.
11.Lifttheheatsinkandfanassemblyoffthefailingsystemboard.Placetheheatsinkonitssidesothatthe
thermalgreasedoesnotcomeincontactwithanything.
Note:Youmighthavetogentlytwisttheheatsinktofreeitfromthemicroprocessor.
12.Removetheretentionmodulefromtherearofthefailingsystemboardandinstallitinthesameposition
onthenewsystemboard.
