Updating(ashing)BIOSfromadiskette
1.Insertasystemprogramupdate(ash)disketteintothediskettedrive.systemprogramupdatesare
availableathttp://www.lenovo.com/supportontheWorldWideWeb.
2.Turnonthecomputer.Ifitisalreadyon,youmustturnitoffandbackon.Theupdatebegins.
3.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheupdate.
RecoveringfromaPOST/BIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourcomputerisinterruptedwhilePOST/BIOSisbeingupdated(ashupdate),yourcomputer
mightnotrestartcorrectly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingprocedurewhichiscommonlycalled
Boot-blockRecovery.
1.Turnoffthecomputerandanyattacheddevices,suchasprinters,monitors,andexternaldrives.
2.Unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsandremovethecomputercover.Referto"Removing

3.Accessthesystemboard.Referto"Locatingpartsonthesystemboard"onpage71.
4.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.Referto"Locatingpartsonthesystem

5.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
6.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)topin2andpin3.

8.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectrical
outlets.
9.InsertthePOST/BIOSupdate(ash)oppydisketteorCD-ROMintothedrive,andturnonthecomputer
andthemonitor.
10.Therecoverysessionwilltaketwotothreeminutes.Duringthistimeyouwillhearaseriesofbeeps.After
theupdatesessioniscompleted,therewillbenovideo,theseriesofbeepswillend,andthesystemwill
automaticallyturnoff.Removethediskettefromthediskettedriveordiscfromtheopticaldrive.

12.ReplacetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumpertothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).

14.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectrical
outlets.
15.Turnonthecomputertorestarttheoperatingsystem.

ofthecomputerandthesettingforAdvancedPowerManagement(APM)BIOSmodeisignored.Not
alloperatingsystemssupportACPIBIOSmode.
