Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffthepowertothedisplayandmake
thecomputerenterscreen-blankmode,right-clickthebatterygaugeiconintheWindowsnotification
areaandthenselectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleepmode
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthentheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedriveand
thecomputerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerresumestonormaloperation,yourworkis
restoredwithinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,dothefollowing:
–ForWindows7:ClicktheStartmenushutdownoptionandthenselectSleep.
–ForWindows8.1:Movethepointertothetop-rightorbottom-rightcornerofthescreentodisplaythe
charms.ThenclickSettings➙Power➙Sleep.
•Hibernationmode
Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavingfilesorexitingfromany
programsthatarerunning.Whenthecomputerentershibernationmode,allopenprograms,folders,and
filesaresavedtotheharddiskdriveorsolid-statedrive,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.
Toputthecomputerintohibernationmode,changeyourpowerplansettingsbydoingthefollowing:
–ForWindows7:ClicktheStartmenushutdownoptionandthenselectHibernate.
–ForWindows8.1:Gotothedesktop.Right-clickthebattery-statusiconintheWindowsnotification
areaandclickPowerOptions.ThenclickChangeplansettingsthatisnexttoyourpowerplan,
andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmodewiththewake-upfunctiondisabled,thecomputerdoes
notconsumeanypower.Thewake-upfunctionisdisabledbydefault.Ifyouputyourcomputerinto
hibernationmodewiththewake-upfunctionenabled,thecomputerconsumesasmallamountofpower.
Toenablethewake-upfunction,dothefollowing:
1.GotoControlPanelandclickSystemandSecurity➙AdministrativeT ools.
2.Double-clickTaskScheduler.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconfirmation,
typethepasswordorprovideconfirmation.
3.Fromtheleftpane,selectthetaskfolderforwhichyouwanttoenablethewake-upfunction.The
scheduledtasksaredisplayed.
4.Clickascheduledtask,andthenclicktheConditionstab.
5.InthePowerarea,selectWakethecomputertorunthistask.
•Wirelessoff
Whenyouarenotusingthewirelessfeatures,suchasBluetoothorwirelessLAN,turnthemoff.This
helpsconservepower.Toturnoffthewirelessfeatures,pressF8.
Maximizingthebatterylife
Tomaximizethelifeofthebattery,dothefollowing:
•Usethebatteryuntilthechargeiscompletelydepleted.
•Rechargethebatterycompletelybeforeusingit.Youcanseewhetherthebatteryisfullychargedfromthe
battery-statusiconintheWindowsnotificationarea.
•Takeconsiderationofusingpower-savingmodes,suchassleepmodeandhibernationmode.
