Sleepandhibernationproblems
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeunexpectedly.
Solution:Ifthemicroprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyenterssleepmodetoallowthe
computertocoolandtoprotectthemicroprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleepmode.
•Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeimmediatelyafterthepower-onself-test.
Solution:Ensurethat:
–Thebatteryischarged.
–Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.See“Operatingenvironment”onpage12

Iftheproblempersists,havethecomputerserviced.
•Problem:Acriticallow-batteryerroroccurs,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Plugtheacpoweradapterintoanelectricaloutletandthen
intothecomputer.Alternatively,replacethebatterywithachargedone.
•Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoresumefromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwasin
sleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbeforeresuming
thecomputerfromsleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromsleepmodewithoutattachingthe
externalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,pressthedisplay-mode
switchingkey
tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
•Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotresumefromsleepmode,orthesystemstatusindicatorblinksslowly
andthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotresumefromsleepmode,itmighthaveenteredsleeporhibernation
modeautomaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesystemstatusindicator.
–Ifthesystemstatusindicatorblinksslowly,yourcomputerisinsleepmode.Connecttheacpower
adaptertothecomputer;thenpressFn.
–Ifthesystemstatusindicatorisoff,yourcomputerhasnopowerorisinhibernationmode.Connect
theacpoweradaptertothecomputer;thenpressthepowerbuttontoresumeoperation.
Ifthesystemstilldoesnotresumefromsleepmode,yoursystemmightstoprespondingandyoumight
notbeabletoturnoffthecomputer.Inthiscase,youmustresetthecomputer.Ifyouhavenotsavedyour
data,itmightbelost.Toresetthecomputer,pressandholdthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsormore.If
thesystemstilldoesnotrespond,removetheacpoweradapterandthebattery.
