ThischapterprovidesinformationaboutstoragedriverequirementsforRedundantArrayofIndependent

Disks(RAID)levels,andinstructionsonhowtoconﬁgureRAIDforyourcomputer.

AnIntroductiontoRAID

RAIDisatechnologythatprovidesincreasedstoragefunctionsandreliabilitythroughredundancy.

WhenagroupofindependentphysicalstoragedrivesissetuptouseRAIDtechnology,theyareinaRAID

array.Thisarraydistributesdataacrossmultiplestoragedrives,butthearrayappearstothehostcomputer

asonesinglestorageunit.CreatingandusingRAIDarraysprovideshighperformance,suchastheexpedited

I/Operformance,becauseseveraldrivescanbeaccessedsimultaneously.

RAIDdrivegroupsconﬁguredaccordingtocertainRAIDlevelsalsoimprovedatastoragereliabilityandfault

tolerancecomparedwithsingle-drivestoragesystems.Datalossresultingfromadrivefailurecanbe

preventedbyreconstructingmissingdatafromtheremainingdrives.

Note:ForRAID0,themissingdataresultingfromadrivefailurecannotbereconstructed.

StoragedriverequirementsforRAIDlevels

Yourcomputersupportsthefollowinginternalstoragedrives:

•2.5-inchformfactor,7-mm(0.28-inch)heightharddiskdrive

•M.2Non-VolatileMemoryExpress(NVMe)solid-statedrive(availableonsomemodels)

Note:Ensurethatyourcomputerhastwoidenticalstoragedrivesinstalled(twoharddiskdrives,orM.2

NVMesolid-statedriveswiththesamecapacity)forsupportedRAIDlevels.Ifonlyonedriveisinstalled,or

twodifferenttypesofdrivesareinstalled,thefollowinginformationdoesnotapply.

YourcomputersupportsthefollowingRAIDlevels:

•RAID0:stripeddiskarray

–Consistsoftwoidenticalstoragedrives

–Supportedstripsize:4KB,8KB,16KB,32KB,64KB,or128KB

–Betterperformancewithoutfaulttolerance

–Higherriskofdatalossresultingfromamemberdrivefailurecomparedwithnon-RAIDconﬁguration

•RAID1:mirroreddiskarray

–Consistsoftwoidenticalstoragedrives

–Improvedreadingperformanceand100%redundancy
