UsingWindowsBitLockerDriveEncryption

Tohelpprotectyourcomputeragainstunauthorizedaccess,usethedriveencryptionsoftware,suchas

WindowsBitLockerDriveEncryption.

WindowsBitLockerDriveEncryptionisanintegralsecurityfeatureofsomeeditionsoftheWindows

operatingsystem.Itcanhelpyouprotecttheoperatingsystemanddatastoredonyourcomputer,even

ifyourcomputerislostorstolen.BitLockerworksbyencryptingalluserandsystemﬁles,includingthe

swapandhibernationﬁles.

BitLockerusesaTrustedPlatformModuletoprovideenhancedprotectionforyourdataandtoensureearly

bootcomponentintegrity.AcompatibleTPMisdeﬁnedasaV1.2TPM(Windows732-bit)orV2.0TPM

(Windows764-bitandWindows10).

Settingthesecuritychip

Strictsecurityrequirementsareimposedonnetworkclientcomputersthattransferconﬁdentialinformation

electronically.Dependingontheoptionsyouordered,yourcomputermighthaveanembeddedsecurity

chip,acryptographicmicroprocessor.Withthesecuritychip,youcandothefollowing:

•Protectyourdataandsystem

•Strengthenaccesscontrols

•Securecommunications

Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.

TosetanitemontheSecurityChipsubmenu,dothefollowing:

1.Turnoffyourcomputer.Waitforaboutﬁveseconds,andthenturnonyourcomputeragain.

2.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.

3.SelectSecurity➙SecurityChipbyusingthedirectionalkeys.

4.PressEnter.TheSecurityChipsubmenuopens.

5.Movetoanitemyouwanttosetbyusingthedirectionalkeys.Whentheitemishighlighted,pressEnter.
