Installinganewoperatingsystem

Insomesituations,youmightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.Thistopicprovidesinstructionson

howtoinstallanewoperatingsystem.

InstallingtheWindows7operatingsystem

Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.

Attention:Theprocessofinstallinganewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourstoragedrive,

includingthedatathatwerestoredinahiddenfolder.

ToinstalltheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:

1.EnsurethatyousetthesecuritychiptoTPM1.2.Formoreinformation,see“Settingthesecurity

chip”onpage64.

2.CopyallthesubdirectoriesandﬁlesintheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice.

•ThesupplementﬁlesfortheWindows7operatingsystemareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.

•ThedevicedriversareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.

•ThepreinstalledprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.

3.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage73.

4.SelectStartup➙BoottodisplaytheBootPriorityOrdersubmenu.

5.Selectthedrivethatcontainstheoperatingsysteminstallationprogram,forexample,USBHDD.

ThenpressEsc.

6.SelectStartup➙UEFI/LegacyBoot.Thendooneofthefollowing:

•ToinstalltheWindows7(32-bit)operatingsystem,selectLegacyOnlyorBoth.

•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminLegacymode,selectLegacyOnly.

•ToinstalltheWindows7(64-bit)operatingsysteminUEFImode,selectUEFIOnly.

Note:ForcomputersthatsupportRAID,youcaninstalltheWindows7operatingsystemontothedrive

onlyinUEFImode.Inthiscase,ensurethatyoualwaysselectUEFIOnly.

7.PressF10toexittheThinkPadSetupprogram.

8.InserttheWindows7operatingsysteminstallationDVDintotheopticaldrive,andrestartthecomputer.

Notes:

•IfyouarestartingtheinstallationDVDimagefromanexternalUSBdeviceorifyourcomputerhasa

non-volatilememory(NVM)Expressdriveinstalled,doadditionalconﬁgurationsbeforeyoustart.For
