Settingthesecuritychip
Strictsecurityrequirementsareimposedonnetworkclienttabletsthattransfercondentialinformation
electronically.Dependingontheoptionsyouordered,yourtabletmighthaveanembeddedsecuritychip,a
cryptographicmicroprocessor.
Settingthesecuritychip
ThechoicesofferedontheSecurityChipsubmenuundertheSecuritymenuoftheThinkPadSetup
programarethefollowing:
•SecurityChipSelection:selecthesecuritychipyouwanttouse.
•SecurityChip:activate,inactivate,ordisablethesecuritychip.
•SecurityReportingOptions:enableordisableeachsecurityreportingoption.
•ClearSecurityChip:cleartheencryptionkey.
•PhysicalPresenceforProvisioning:enablesordisablestheconrmationmessagewhenyouchange
thesettingsofthesecuritychip.
•PhysicalPresenceforClear:enablesordisablestheconrmationmessagewhenyouclearthesecurity
chip.
Notes:
1.BesurethatthesupervisorpasswordhasbeensetintheThinkPadSetupprogram.Otherwiseanyone
canchangethesettingsforthesecuritychip.
2.Ifthesecuritychipisremovedorreplaced,oranewonehasbeenadded,thetabletwillnotstart.You
willhearfourcyclesoffourbeepseach.
3.Ifthesecuritychipisinactiveordisabled,theClearSecurityChipoptionwillnotbedisplayed.
4.Whenyouclearthesecuritychip,besuretoturnyourtabletoffandthenturnitonagainafteryouset
thesecuritychiptoActive.Otherwise,theClearSecurityChipoptionisnotdisplayed.
TosetanitemontheSecurityChipsubmenu,dothefollowing:
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourtabletoffandthenturnitonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,presspowerbuttontogetherwiththevolumeupbutton.The
ThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
