Solution:OntheStartupmenuofThinkPadSetup,makesurethattheharddiskdriveisontheBoot

priorityorderlist.IfitisontheExcludedfrombootorderlist,itisdisabled.Selecttheentryforitonthe

listandpressShift+1tomoveitbacktotheBootpriorityorderlist.

•Problem:Aftersettingaharddiskpasswordontheharddiskdriveofthecomputer,youmovedthedrive

toanothercomputer.Nowyoucannotunlocktheharddiskpassword.

Solution:Yourcomputersupportsanenhancedpasswordalgorithm.Computersolderthanyoursmight

notsupportsuchasecurityfunction.

Asolid-statedriveproblem

Problem:WhenyoucompressﬁlesorfoldersbyuseofthedatacompressionfunctioninWindows,and

thendecompressthem,theprocessofwritingtoorreadingfromtheﬁlesorfoldersisslow.

Solution:ApplythediskdefragmentationtoolinWindowsforfasteraccesstothedata.

Opticaldriveproblems

•Problem:Theopticaldrive,suchasaCD,DVD,orCD-RWdrive,doesnotwork.

Solution:MakesurethatthecomputeristurnedonandaCD,DVD,orCD-RWisproperlyloadedonthe

centerpivotofthedrive.(Youshouldhearaclick.)

Makesurethatthedriveconnectorisﬁrmlyconnectedtothecomputer.Ifyouuseanoptionthathasabay

forinstallingthedrive,makesurethattheoptionisﬁrmlyconnectedtothecomputerandworksproperly.

Makesurethatthedrivetrayisﬁrmlyclosed.

Makesurethatthedevicedriversarecorrectlyinstalled.

•Problem:YouhearanoisefromthedrivewhentheCD,DVD,orCD-RWdiscisspinning.

Solution:Ifthediscisnotcorrectlyloadedonthecenterpivotofthedrive,itmightrubagainstthedrive

coverandmakeanoise.Makesurethatthediscisloadedcorrectlyinthedrive.

•Problem:Thetraydoesnotopenevenifyoupresstheejectbutton.

Solution:Whenyourcomputerisnotturnedon,pressingtheejectbuttondoesnotcausethedrivetray

toopen.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedonandthatthedriveconnectorisﬁrmlyconnected

tothecomputer.

Ifthetraystilldoesnotopen,makesurethatthecomputerisrunning,andinserttheendofastraightened

paperclipintotheemergencyejecthole.Thetraywillopen.

•Problem:Anopticalmedium,suchasaCD,DVD,orCD-RWdisccannotberead.

Solution:MakesurethattheCD,DVD,orCD-RWdiscisnotdirty.Ifitis,cleanitwithacleanerkit.

TestanotherCD,DVD,orCD-RWdisc.Ifthecomputercanreadtheotherdisc,theﬁrstdiscmightbe

defective.

Makesurethatthediscisloadedonthecenterpivotofthedrivewiththelabelsideup.(Youshould

hearaclick.)
