Usingrecoverymedia

Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtouserecoverymediaondifferentoperatingsystems.

•Youcanuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettingsonly.Youcanuse

recoverymediatoputthecomputerinanoperationalstateafterallothermethodsofrecoveryhavefailed.

Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestorethecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,allthe

ﬁlescurrentlyontheharddiskdrivewillbedeletedandreplacedbythefactorydefaultsettings.

Touserecoverymedia,dothefollowing:

1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootmedium(memorykeyorotherUSB

storagedevice)tothecomputer,orinsertthebootdiscintotheopticaldrive.

2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF12keywhenturningonthecomputer.WhentheBootMenu

windowopens,releasetheF12key.

3.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.

4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.

1.Afterrestoringyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,youmighthavetoreinstalldevicedrivers

forsomedevices.See“Reinstallingpreinstalledprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage67.

2.SomecomputerscomewithMicrosoftOfﬁceorMicrosoftWorkspreinstalled.Ifyouneedtorecover

orreinstallyourMicrosoftOfﬁceorMicrosoftWorksprograms,youmustusetheMicrosoftOfﬁceCD

orMicrosoftWorksCD.ThesediscsareprovidedonlywithcomputerspreinstalledwithMicrosoft

OfﬁceorMicrosoftWorks.

Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations

TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourharddiskdrivecontentsincludingthe

operatingsystem,dataﬁles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcandesignatewherethe

RescueandRecoveryprogramstoresthebackup:

•Inaprotectedareaofyourharddiskdrive

•Onthesecondaryharddiskdriveifasecondaryharddiskdriveisinstalledinyourcomputer

•OnanattachedexternalUSBharddiskdrive

•Onanetworkdrive

•Onrecordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)

Afteryouhavebackedupthecontentsontheharddiskdrive,youcanrestorethecompletecontentsofthe

harddiskdrive,restoreonlytheselectedﬁles,orrestoreonlytheWindowsoperatingsystemandapplications.

program.

1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoPCExperience➙LenovoTools➙

EnhancedBackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.

2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.

3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson

thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
