totheRJ45connectorofthehub.Themaximumallowabledistancefromthecomputertohubis
100meters.Ifthecableisconnectedandthedistanceiswithinacceptablelimitsbuttheproblem
persists,tryadifferentcable.
–Youareusingthecorrectdevicedriver.Toinstallcorrectdriver,dothefollowing:
1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙HardwareandSound➙DeviceManager.Ifyouareprompted
foranadministratorpasswordorconrmation,typethepasswordorprovideconrmation.
2.Iftheexclamationmark!isdisplayednexttotheadapternameunderNetworkadapters,you
mightnotbeusingthecorrectdriverorthedrivermighthavebeendisabled.Toupdatethedriver,
right-clickthehighlightedadapter.
3.ClickUpdateDriverSoftware,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
–Theswitchportandtheadapterhavethesameduplexsetting.
Ifyouconguredtheadapterforfullduplex,makesurethattheswitchportalsoisconguredfor
fullduplex.Settingthewrongduplexmodecandegradeperformance,causedataloss,orresultin
lostconnections.
–Youhaveinstalledallnetworkingsoftwarethatisnecessaryforyournetworkenvironment.
CheckwithyourLANadministratorforthenecessarynetworkingsoftware.
•Problem:Theadapterstopsworkingfornoapparentreason.
Solution:Thenetworkdriverlesmightbecorruptormissing.Updatethedriverbyreferringtotheabove
solutionfortheproceduretomakesurethatthecorrectdevicedriverisinstalled.
•Problem:IfyourcomputerisaGigabitEthernetmodelandyouuseaspeedof1000Mbps,the
connectionfailsorerrorsoccur.Solution:
–UseCategory5wiringandmakesurethatthenetworkcableissecurelyconnected.
–Connecttoa1000BASE-Thub/switch(not1000BASE-X).
•Problem:TheWakeonLANfeatureisnotworking.
Solution:MakesurethatWakeonLANisenabledinThinkPadSetup.Ifitis,checkwithyourLAN
administratorforthenecessarysettings.
•Problem:IfyourcomputerisaGigabitEthernetmodel,itcannotconnecttothenetworkat1000Mbps.
Instead,itconnectsat100Mbps.
Solution:
–Tryanothercable.
–Makesurethatthelinkpartnerissettoauto-negotiate.
–Makesurethattheswitchis802.3ab-compliant(gigabitovercopper).
AwirelessLANproblem
Problem:Youcannotconnecttothenetworkusingthebuilt-inwirelessnetworkcard.
Solution:MakesurethatyourwirelessLANdriveristhelatestversion.ChecktheWebsiteandconrmthat
thedriverversionsupportedbytheAccessConnectionsprogramisthelatestdocumentedinthereadmele.
Makesurethatyourcomputeriswithinrangeofawirelessaccesspoint.
Makesurethatthewirelessradioisenabledbydouble-clickingtheAccessConnectionsicononthetaskbar.
