Chargingthebattery
Whenyoucheckbatterystatusandndthatthepercentageofpowerremainingisloworwhenthepower
alarmalertsyouthattheremainingpowerislow,youneedtochargeyourbatteryorreplaceitwitha
chargedbattery.
Ifanacoutletisconvenient,plugtheacpoweradapterintoit,andtheninsertthejackintothecomputer.
Thebatterywillbefullychargedinabout3to6hours.Thechargingtimeisaffectedbythebatterysize
andthephysicalenvironment.Youcancheckthebatterychargingstatusatanytimebylookingatthe
batterymetericonattheWindowsnoticationarea.
Note:Toincreasethelifeofthebattery,thecomputerdoesnotstartrechargingthebatteryiftheremaining
powerisgreaterthan95%.
Maximizingbatterylife
Tomaximizethelifeofthebattery,dothefollowing:
•Usethebatteryuntilthechargeiscompletelydepleted,thatis,usethebatteryuntilthebatterystatus
indicatorstartsblinkingorange.
•Rechargethebatterycompletelybeforeusingit.Thebatteryisfullychargedifthebatteryindicatorshows
greenwhentheacpoweradapterispluggedin.
•Alwaysusepower-savingmodes,suchasscreenblank,sleep,andhibernation.
Managingyourbatterypower
WiththePowerManagerprogram,youcanadjustyourpowersettingstogiveyouthebestbalancebetween
performanceandpowersaving.

Power-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Understandingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank
Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffpowertothedisplay,right-clickthe
batterygaugeiconfromtheWindowsnoticationareaandselectPoweroffdisplay.
•Sleep
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthesolidstatedriveortheharddiskdriveandthe
computerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestoredwithinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pressFn+F4.Toreturnfromsleepmode,presstheFnkey.
Dependingonthecomputermodel,yourcomputermightsupportthe30DayStandbyfunction.Whenthis
functionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesevenlesspowerinsleepmodeandtakesonlyseconds
toresumenormaloperationwhenyoupressthepowerbutton.Formoreinformationaboutthe30Day
Standbyfunction,refertothehelpinformationsystemofthePowerManagerprogram.
Youalsocanusethecombinationtoputthecomputerintohibernationmodeordo-nothingmodeby
changingthesettingsinthePowerManagerprogram.
