Considerationsforattachinganexternalmonitor
•Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatissupplied
withthecomputer,andthemonitorINFlethatissuppliedwiththeexternalmonitor.
•Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthecomputermonitor,andusean
externalmonitorthatdoesnotsupportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,
whichenablesyoutodisplayonlyapartofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerproduces.
YoucanseeotherpartsoftheimagebymovingthescreenwiththeTrackPointpointingdeviceoranother
pointingdevice.
•Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemightbelimited.
UsingtheDVImonitor
Ifyourcomputerisattachedtooneofthefollowingoptionalexpansionunits,youcanconnectadigitalvisual
interface(DVI)monitortoyourcomputerthroughtheDVIconnectorofthatunit.
•ThinkPadMiniDockSeries3
•ThinkPadMiniDockSeries3withUSB3.0
•ThinkPadMiniDockPlusSeries3
•ThinkPadMiniDockPlusSeries3withUSB3.0
Notes:
•ThescreenmodethatcanbeuseddependsonthespecicationsoftheDVImonitor.
•BeforeyouattachtheDVImonitor,makesurethatthecomputerisattachedtotheexpansionunitand
thesystemworksproperly.
ToattachtheDVImonitor,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffthecomputer.
2.ConnecttheDVImonitortotheDVIconnectoroftheexpansionunit,andthenconnectthemonitor
toanelectricaloutlet.
3.TurnontheDVImonitorandthecomputer.Thesystemstarts.
IfthecomputeroutputdoesnotappearontheDVImonitor,dothefollowing:
1.PressCtrl+Alt+F12.TheIntelGraphicsandMediaControlPanelwindowopens.
2.SelectAdvancedModeandclickOK.
3.SelectMultipleDisplays.
4.IntheOperatingModeeld,selectanyofthefollowingoptions.
•SingleDisplay:Dependingonyourconguration,thecomputeroutputisdisplayedoneitherthe
computerdisplayortheDVImonitor.
•CloneDisplays:Thesamecomputeroutputisdisplayedonboththecomputerdisplayandthe
DVImonitor.
•ExtendedDesktop:DifferentcomputeroutputisdisplayedonthecomputerdisplayandtheDVI
monitor.
