Youcansetapower-onpasswordtohelpprotectyourcomputeragainstaccessbyunauthorizedusers.
Ifyousetapower-onpassword,thepasswordpromptisdisplayedonthescreenwheneveryouturnonthe
computer.Youmustenterthecorrectpasswordtostartusingthecomputer.
Settingapower-onpassword
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenturnitonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheThinkPadSetupprogrammainmenuopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectPower-onPassword.
8.IntheEnterNewPasswordeld,typeadesiredpassword,andpressEnter.
9.IntheConrmNewPasswordeld,retypethepasswordandpressEnter.
Note:Youmightwanttonotedownyourpower-onpasswordinasafeplace.Otherwise,ifyou
forgetit,youhavetotakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohave
thepasswordcanceled.
10.IntheSetupNoticewindowthatisdisplayed,pressEntertocontinue.
11.PressF10.TheSetupConrmationwindowopens.SelectY estosavecongurationchangesandexit.
Changingorremovingthepower-onpassword
Tochangethepower-onpassword,followsteps1through7asintroducedabove.Enteryourcurrent
password.WhentheEnterNewPasswordeldisdisplayed,typeanewpasswordintheeldandthen
retypeittoverify.Toremovethepassword,followsteps1through7.Typeyourcurrentpassword.Whenthe
EnterNewPasswordeldisdisplayed,leaveitblankandpressEntertwice.

Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddiskdriveorsolidstate

Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinordertogainaccesstolesandapplicationsontheharddiskdrive.
