Wirelessconnectionisthetransferofdatawithouttheuseofcablesbutbymeansofradiowavesonly.
IntheAirplanemode,allwirelessfeaturesaredisabled.TodisabletheAirplanemode,opentheStartmenu
andthenclickSettings.IfSettingsisnotdisplayed,clickAllappstodisplayallprograms,andthenclick
Settings➙Network&Internet➙Airplanemode,andthenslidethecontroltotheleft.
Dependingonthewirelessdevicesinstalledonyourcomputer,youmightbeabletousethefollowing
wirelessnetworks:
•Wireless-LANconnection
•Wireless-WANconnection
•Bluetoothconnection
Usingthewireless-LANconnection
Awirelesslocalareanetwork(LAN)coversarelativelysmallgeographicarea,suchasanofficebuildingora
house.Devicesbasedonthe802.11standardscanconnecttothistypeofnetwork.
Yourcomputercomeswithawirelessnetworkcardandaconfigurationutilitytohelpyouestablishwireless
connectionsandmonitortheconnectionstatus.Thisenablesyoutostayconnectedtoyournetworkwhile
youareattheoffice,inameetingroom,orathome,withnoneedforawiredconnection.
Toestablishawireless-LANconnection,dothefollowing:
1.Clickthewireless-network-connection-statusiconintheWindowsnotificationarea.Alistofavailable
wirelessnetworksisdisplayed.
2.Double-clickanetworktoconnecttoit.Providerequiredinformationifneeded.
Thecomputerautomaticallyconnectstoanavailablewirelessnetworkwhenthelocationchanges.Formore
information,refertotheWindowshelpinformationsystem.
TipsforusingthewirelessLANfeature
Toachievethebestconnection,usethefollowingguidelines:
•PlaceyourcomputersothatthereareasfewobstaclesaspossiblebetweenthewirelessLANaccess
pointandthecomputer.
•Openyourcomputerlidtoanangleofslightlymorethan90degrees.
•Ifyouusethewirelessfeature(the802.11standards)ofyourcomputersimultaneouslywithaBluetooth
option,thedatatransmissionspeedcanbedelayedandtheperformanceofthewirelessfeaturecanbe
degraded.
UsingthewirelessWANconnection
WirelessWideAreaNetwork(wirelessWAN)whichusescellularnetworksfordatatransmission,enables
youtoestablishwirelessconnectionsoverremotepublicorprivatenetworks.Theseconnectionscanbe
maintainedoveralargegeographicalarea,suchasacityoranentirecountry,byuseofmultipleantenna
sitesorsatellitesystemsmaintainedbywirelessserviceproviders.
