designed explicitly for use in health care facilities,

including patient care spaces as deﬁned by NEC Article

517. These devices also satisfy electrical safety

requirements speciﬁed in NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities

Code, allowing facility managers to ensure that their

facilities are compliant with this safety regulation.

Patient Care Areas As defined in NFPA 99 – 2012 Edition Patient Care Vicinity (Depicted at right) A space, within a location intended for examination and treatment of patients, extending 6 feet (1.8 m) beyond the normal location of the bed, chair, table, treadmill, or other device that supports the patient during examination and treatment and extending vertically 7.5 feet (2.3 m) above the floor. What is a Medical Grade Power Strip? Applicable Codes & Standards It is a power strip for use with medical equipment and with medical approval under the UL guidelines. They are intended for use inside Patient Care Areas and specifically within the 6 foot perimeter of the patient, known as the Patient Care Vicinity.
