Product: Renoir® II Architectural Wall Box Dimmers
A
rticle ID: 20091214-DLB-RenoirII-02
Date: December 14, 2009
Summary: The Renoir II product line supports a unique method of multi-location dimming which allows for
wiring methods consistent with traditional 3-way wiring methods yet supports any combination
of up to five masters and/or remotes and supports dimming from a remote location.
Information: The Renoir II dimming line has a number of unique features supporting multi-location dimming.
The following are all critical points to consider when laying out these systems:
Master dimmers are dimmers that connect to the load
Remote dimmers are dimmers that control a master
Both remote dimmers and switches are available
Remote dimmers operate identically to the masters
Up to (5) devices may be installed on one traveler wire, supporting any combination of
masters and remotes
Maximum 250’ traveler wire length (longest run)
Any topology is supported (home-run, daisy chain, “T”)
When multiple masters are all connected on the same traveler wire
A control change from a remote affects all masters
A control change at a master only affects the dimmer where the change is made
Applications:
Traditional 3-way applications
4-way, 5-way applications
Fixed-scene systems (preset-masters mounted in closet, remote switches only in user
spaces)
Multi-location dimming – dim from remote locations too
Multiple entrances into same space
Consider the wiring diagrams on the following page showing common configurations.
