Strauss™ Volume Control
200 Watts (100 RMS)
Cat. No. SGVSM
DI-000-SGVSM-00A
INSTALLATION
WARNING: TO BE INSTALLED AND/OR USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPROPRIATE ELECTRICAL CODES AND
REGULATIONS.
WARNING: MAXIMUM AMPLIFIER POWER IS 100 WATTS PER CHANNEL. HIGHER AMPLIFIER POWER MAY
CAUSE DAMAGE.
Before starting connections, please note that the left and right attenuator circuits are completely isolated from each other
to prevent instability when used with certain types of amplifiers which have floating grounds. If the amplifier to be used
has common grounds between channels, a 3 wire system can be used between the amplifier and control, but it will be
necessary to connect a jumper between the control ground returns (L- & R-).
If one ground is open, there will be no output on the ungrounded channel at any attenuator setting.
The connectors on the attenuator are the screw-to-tighten type. Connect wires per WIRING DIAGRAM as follows:
1. Select location for mounting control.
NOTE: Due to the depth of volume control, a low-voltage ring or deep electrical box is recommended.
2. Make connections by stripping wire insulation back about 1/4” (.63 cm). Twist any loose strands tightly.
NOTE: It is recommended that at least 16 AWG speaker wire be used for runs up to 30’ (9.1 m). For runs longer than
30’ (9.1 m), use 14-18 AWG wire.
3. Insert the wires from the amplifier into the “TO AMP” openings of the connector, Positive-to-Positive and Negative-to-
Negative, then tighten screws. Check for stray wire strands that might cause a short circuit. Make sure the metal part of
the screw connector engages the bare wire, NOT the insulation!
4. Similarly, connect speaker wires to the “TO SPEAKER” openings and tighten screws.
IMPEDANCE NOTE: There are two impedance settings. 2x is used for up to four rooms connected to a single 8 ohm
rated amplifier output and 6x which is used for 5 to six rooms.
5. Install control in its operating location, ensuring that terminal connector is at top.
NOTE: Leave control 3 or 4 positions above minimum volume before starting the system for the first time to avoid
damaging the speakers, while still being loud enough to observe operation.
