Paper and specialty media guide 85 Paper guidelines Paper characteristics The following paper characteristics affect print quality and reliability. Consider these factors before printing on them: Weight The printer trays and multipurpose feeder can automatically feed paper weights between 60–176 g/m2 (16–47‑lb) grain long paper. The 2100‑sheet tray can automatically feed paper weights up to 60–135 g/m2 (16–36‑lb) grain long paper.
Paper and specialty media guide 86 To help avoid paper jams and poor print quality: • Always use new, undamaged paper. • Before loading paper, know the recommended printable side of the paper. This information is usually indicated on the paper package. • Do not use paper that has been cut or trimmed by hand. • Do not mix paper sizes, types, or weights in the same tray; mixing results in jams. • Do not use coated papers unless they are specifically designed for electrophotographic printing.
Paper and specialty media guide 87 caused throughout the entire life of a device (from design to end-of-life). This is due to the energy-intensive manufacturing processes required to make paper. Thus, Lexmark seeks to educate customers and partners on minimizing the impact of paper. Using recycled paper is one way. Eliminating excessive and unnecessary paper consumption is another. Lexmark is well-equipped to help customers minimize printing and copying waste.
