INTRODUCTION Your Caller ID phone stores and displays specific information, provided by your local telephone company, to subscribers of Caller ID or similar caller identification services. You must subscribe to one of these services in order to use this unit. Your Caller ID phone enables you to: • Identify callers before you answer the phone. • View the time and date of each incoming call. • Record up to 99 Caller ID messages sequentially. • Know who called while you were away.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN PARTS CHECKLIST Make sure your package includes the following items: S H U T TL E SELECT EXIT CLEAR VOICE MAIL DIAL CALLER ID PAUSE MENU STORE DIRECTORY LOWER REDIAL 1 ABC 2 DEF 3 4 JKL 5 MNO 6 8 CONFER 7 BUSY REDIAL GHI 6 LINE 2 7 PQRS TUV 8 WXYZ OPER 0 # 9 4 3 VOLUME TONE FLASH 5 * HEADSET MUTE LINE 1 2 HOLD 1 SPEAKER Base 1 black wire telephone line cord Handset Handset cord 1 gray wire telephone line cord Mounting bracket AC power
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface. • Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines. INSTALLING THE BATTERIES Your phone uses 3 AA-size alkaline batteries for power backup in case AC main power is off. CAUTION: Remove batteries if storing over 30 days.
1. If the line cords are already connected, disconnect them from the base unit. 2. Use a screwdriver to pry up the battery compartment door on the bottom of the phone. 3. Insert 3 AA-size alkaline batteries as shown on the diagram in the battery compartment. 4. Snap the battery compartment door back into place. 5. If the line cords were previously connected, re-attach them to the unit and check your memory locations. NOTE: If the low battery icon appears in the display, you need to replace the batteries.
INSTALLATION OPTIONS Although you can use your 2-line telephone with a single phone line, you must have two lines (separate phone numbers) to use a two-line system. The following diagrams show two possible systems: Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack One type of two-line phone system uses a single RJ14 modular jack which contains both phone lines. Connect the phone cord to the LINE 1+2 jack. You must use a 4-conductor telephone line cord like the gray one packed with your unit.
Each Line on a Separate Modular Jack If you have two separate phone jacks, each with its own line, connect one of the phone cords to the LINE 2 jack, and connect the remaining phone cord to the LINE 1+2 phone jack located on the back of the phone. NOTE: Connect the phone cord from the LINE 1+2 jack to the outlet that you want to be line 1. NOTE: Two-line capability requires twoline service from your local telephone company.
DESKTOP INSTALLATION Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack 1. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the jack on the side of the base. Place the handset in the base. 2. Plug the power supply cord into the POWER 6V AC jack on the base and into an AC outlet. 3. Plug the gray telephone line cord into the LINE 1+2 jack on the base and into a dual line modular jack. For single line use, See “A Single Line on a Modular Jack“.
Each Line on a Separate Modular Jack 1. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the jack on the side of the base. Place the handset in the base. 2. Plug the telephone line cord into the jack marked LINE 1+2 on the back of the unit and into a single line modular jack you want to be line 1 . 4.
WALL MOUNT INSTALLATION Two Lines on a Single Modular Jack 2 1. Remove the mounting bracket. Rotate it so that the bottom of the phone is flat. Reattach the wall mount bracket by inserting the tabs into the slots on the top of the unit first, and then snapping the bottom tabs into place. 1 2. Plug the power supply cord into the POWER 6V AC jack on the base and into an AC outlet. 3.
4. Slip the mounting holes over the wall plate posts and slide the unit down firmly into place. (Wall plate not included.) 5. Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the jack on the side of the base. Place the handset in the base. NOTE : The phone automatically defaults to touch-tone dialing. To change to pulse (rotary) dialing, see “Tone/ Pulse Dialing.” If you don’t know which type of service you have, check with the phone company.

DATA PORT This phone is equipped with a DATA PORT jack for you to connect an auxiliary phone device, such as a fax machine, computer modem, answering machine, or even a cordless phone. The DATA PORT switch on the back of the phone controls the DATA PORT jack by enabling you to choose the line to be used, either line 1 or line 2.
In the event that you are talking to someone on line 2 and want him to fax something to you, change the DATA PORT switch to 1 and give him the phone number for line 1. Your fax machine can now receive calls on line 1. IMPORTANT: Be sure to switch the fax machine back to the normal line when you are done because outside callers who do not know that you have multiple lines will not be able to reach your fax machine if they dial the normal fax line.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE In case of difficulty, please check the following Troubleshooting Guide before seeking service. Problem Solution No dial tone • Check installation: –– Are the telephone line cords connected to the phone and the wall jack? Are they damaged? • Does the hook switch pop up when the handset is lifted? • Check the SPEAKER button. Is the indicator off? • Is the pulse/tone mode programmed correctly? Pulse or tone may not be compatible with your local dialing service.
Problem Solution Incoming voice too low or none at all. • Check setting of volume control. Indicator and tone feedback flutter when dialing in pulse mode • This is normal as power is fluctuating as phone dials. Memory dialing doesn’t work • Did you program the memory location keys correctly? • Did you follow proper dialing sequence? • Make sure the pulse/tone mode is programmed correctly. Battery LOW indicator blinks or is solid • The batteries need replacing or are not installed.
