atechnicalstandardformeasuringtheRadioFrequency(RF)energy
exposurefromtabletsandotherwirelesshandsetswiththeparticipationand
leadershipofFDAscientistsandengineers.Thestandard,“Recommended
PracticeforDeterminingtheSpatial-PeakSpecificAbsorptionRate(SAR)
intheHumanBodyDuetoWirelessCommunicationsDevices:Experimental
Techniques”,setsforththefirstconsistenttestmethodologyformeasuring
therateatwhichRFisdepositedintheheadsandbodiesoftabletusers.
Thetestmethodusesatissue-simulatingmodelofthehumanheadand
body.StandardizedSARtestmethodologyisexpectedtogreatlyimprove
theconsistencyofmeasurementsmadeatdifferentlaboratoriesonthe
sametablet.SARisthemeasurementoftheamountofenergyabsorbedin
tissue,eitherbythewholebodyorasmallpartofthebody.Itismeasuredin
watts/kg(ormilliwatts/g)ofmatter.Thismeasurementisusedtodetermine
whetheratabletcomplieswithsafetyguidelines.
