Clothes dryers/Electric dryer reliability
Over 42,000 readers sound off on brand reliability
No brand stands out as the most or least reliable electric dryer. However, LG appears at the top of our estimates and is meaning-
fully better than the four brands at the bottom (i.e., Frigidaire, GE, Electrolux, and Samsung).
These conclusions are based on our breakage rate estimates for clothes dryers by the 5th year of ownership, gathered from 42,351
subscribers who purchased a new electric dryer between 2009 and 2016. Our statistical model estimates breakage rates for dryers
that are not covered by a service contract and accounts for the number of loads of laundry run through the machines per week.
Differences of less than 6 points between brands are not meaningful. Models within a brand may vary, and changes in design or
manufacturer may affect future reliability. Still, choosing a brand with a lower estimated breakage rate can improve your odds of
getting a dependable model.
