nottoexceedtheemissionlimitsforexposuretoRadioFrequency(RF)energysetbythe

FederalCommunicationsCommissionoftheU.S.Government.Theselimitsarepartof

comprehensiveguidelinesandestablishpermittedlevelsofRFenergyforthegeneral

population.Theguidelinesarebasedonstandardsthatweredevelopedbyindependent

scientificorganizationsthroughperiodicandthoroughevaluationofscientificstudies.The

standardsincludeasubstantialsafetymargindesignedtoassurethesafetyofallpersons,

regardlessofageandhealth.

Theexposurestandardforwirelessmobiledevicesemploysaunitofmeasurementknownas

theSpecificAbsorptionRate,orSAR.TheSARlimitsetbytheFCCis1.6W/kg.

TestsforSARareconductedusingstandardoperatingpositionsspecifiedbytheFCCwith

thedevicetransmittingatitshighestcertifiedpowerlevelinalltestedfrequencybands.

AlthoughSARisdeterminedatthehighestcertifiedpowerlevel,theactualSARlevelof

thedevicewhileoperatingcanbewellbelowthemaximumvalue.Becausethedeviceis

designedtooperateatmultiplepowerlevelstouseonlythepowerrequiredtoreachthe

network,ingeneral,thecloseryouaretoawirelessbasestationantenna,thelowerthe

poweroutput.

Beforeadevicemodelisavailableforsaletothepublic,itmustbetestedandcertifiedto

theFCCthatitdoesnotexceedthelimitestablishedbythegovernment-adoptedrequirement

forsafeexposure.Thetestsareperformedinpositionsandlocations(e.g.,attheearand

wornonthebody)asrequiredbytheFCCforeachmodel.
