OPERATION & MAINTENANCE
B-1
Read and understand this entire section before oper-
ating your X-Tractor 2G.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Do not attempt to use this equipment until you have
thoroughly read all operating and maintenance man-
uals supplied with your equipment and any related
welding machine it will be used with. They include
important safety precautions, operating and mainte-
nance instructions and parts lists.
ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill.
•Do not touch electrically live parts such
as output terminals or internal wiring.
•Insulate yourself from the work and
ground.
•Always wear dry insulating gloves.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
WELDING SPARKS can cause fire or
explosion.
•Keep flammable material away.
•Do not weld upon containers which
have held combustibles.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARC RAYS can burn.
•Wear eye, ear and body protection.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUMES AND GASES
can be dangerous.
Although the removal of the particu-
late matter from welding smoke may
reduce the ventilation requirement,
concentrations of the clear exhausted
fumes and gases may still be haz-
ardous to health. Avoid breathing
concentrations of these fumes and
gases. Use adequate ventilation
when welding. See ANSI Z49.1,
"Safety in Welding and Cutting", pub-
lished by the American Welding
Society.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only qualified personnel should operate this equip-
ment.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Always operate this equipment with the filters installed
and covers in place as these provide maximum pro-
tection from moving parts and insure proper vacuum
operation and cooling air flow.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Press the START button and the unit is ready for
welding smoke removal.
To insure proper smoke removal, the filter will typical-
ly require cleaning after welding with 25 to 50 pounds
of Innershield® electrode depending on the type of
electrode used and the efficiency of the smoke pickup.
To do this, TURN THE VACUUM MOTOR OFF and
operate the shaker handle on the side of the cabinet.
PULL HANDLE forward and release about 40 times.
Motor must be off during this cleaning operation to
obtain proper cleaning of the filter bags.
The dust and particulate matter collected by these fil-
ters can be dangerous to your health. Take neces-
sary precautions so you and your fellow workers do
not breathe the dust and particulate matter. Wear a
suitable respirator when emptying bin or doing other
maintenance work. Properly dispose of collected
material.
The smoke particles shaken from the filter bag are
collected in a bin located under the filters. This bin
should be emptied after approximately 2,000 pounds
of NS-3M electrode is used. Actual storage capacity
of unit will depend on gun efficiency and type of elec-
trode used. The bin should be emptied before it is
completely filled.
To gain access to the bin, turn off motor and open
door by loosening the four wing nuts. Slip the right
side wing nuts off door brace and door will hinge on
left side wing nut assemblies, permitting bin to slide
out. The bin should be lined with a plastic bag. (M-
8041-19) for easy removal of collected smoke parti-
cles. Close top of bag before removal from bin to pre-
vent spilling of smoke dust. Two plastic bags are sent
with a new unit.
The filter bag assembly should last two years or
longer and only needs to be replaced if it becomes
damaged and leaks smoke or becomes restricted.
