On Firebirds - using the supplied hook and loop tape - mount the headlight door module to the
horizontal subframe area on top of and next to the block off plate. Leave the two pieces of hook and
loop tape fastened to each other. Remove the tape backing from one side and attach the tape along
one edge of the module. Test mount the module leaving the backing tape in place (the best t will
probably be to have the tape along the edge that is closest to the front of the car and the headlights)
and then remove the backing tape and mount the module.
Now check inside the air lter to make sure no debris has fallen into the lter. If any material has
fallen into the lter, remove it by hand or with a vacuum cleaner.
Reinstall the LPE plastic intake - slipping the intake into the rubber elbow. Tighten the plastic
clamp onto the intake (make sure it is fully tightened and will not let air to get by) and tighten the
worm-gear clamp over the air lter. It may be easiest to use the 5/16th socket to tighten the worm-
gear clamp that is located on the lter. Reinstall the two piece plastic fastener that secures the air
intake to the radiator shroud. If the original fastener is damaged, use one of the fasteners provided.
Install the rubber A.I.R. pump hose on the LPE intake and tighten the plastic clamp to secure it in
place.
Start the vehicle and check to make sure everything is running properly. Close the hood and release
the parking brake.
Congratulations - you have completed the installation.
On a stock engine, the LPE air intake system should provide a gain of 10 to 12 horsepower over the
stock factory air intake. On our 440 horsepower 383 CID engine package or other highly modied en-
gines, the LPE air intake can provide an over 25 horsepower gain over the stock system.
WARNING: This air intake system is designed to provide increased air ow and horsepower to stock
as well as heavily modied vehicles. Although the lter has been located in a protected area, it is now
mounted several inches lower than the original lter. In order to avoid possible engine damage, do not
drive through water that is higher than the bottom of the front of the car's body.
Filterservice - A lter service kit is available from LPE for cleaning and re-oiling the air lter (part
number SB-88-0005). The correct amount of oil for this lter element is 33 grams (1.16 ounces) of oil.
Replacement lters are also available from LPE (lter part number L660010493). How frequently you
should clean your lter will depend on your driving conditions. LPE recommends checking your lter at
every oil change or 3,000 miles. If there is a build up of dirt as thick as the wire mesh, then LPE recom-
mends you clean your lter. As dirt builds up on your lter, the restriction of the airow also increases.
Many other items are available from LPE for your vehicle, including low temperature thermostats,
camshafts, CNC ported cylinder heads, engine packages, larger throttle bodies, and port matched intake
manifolds. Contact LPE, visit our web site, or contact your LPE distributor for information about our
many other products.
