Media Center Extender
Media Center FAQ’s
I have a firewall installed on my Media Center Computer. Will I need to
configure it to make Media Center Extender work?
Depending on which firewall you have installed on your Computer, you
may have to configure it to enable Media Center Extender to work. You
can read more about firewalls at Firewalls and Media Center Extender.
What are all the pieces that I need to make this work?
A home network—wireless or wired. If you choose wireless, we strongly
recommend using a dual band 802.11N router configured properly. A
Computer running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista
Ultimate connected directly to your home network by an Ethernet cable
to the router. A Windows Media Center Extender (like the DMA2100 or
DMA2200) device connected wirelessly or wired to your home network.
I've heard the phrase Windows Media Center Extender. What is a
Windows Media Center Extender?
A Windows Media Center Extender is a hardware device that, when
connected to a TV, gives you the ability to enjoy the Windows Media
Center experience and media on that TV, even though your Windows
Vista-based Computer is in another room.
What kind of wireless home network will work best?
You can read more about building the optimal home wireless network
in Wireless Home Networking Basics and Advanced Home Wireless
Network Troubleshooting.
I already own a stand-alone Media Center Extender. Will it still work
with Windows Vista?
No. Windows XP Media Center Extenders are not compatible with the
Windows Vista operating system.
