Types of Ethernet Cable used when
Connecting a Switch to Another Switch
This article will provide you with information regarding which type of cable should be used to
connect a Linksys switch to other devices.
NOTE: All devices mentioned here are compatible with CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 Ethernet
cables.
For the SE1500, SE2500, and SE2800, you may use either straight-through or crossover
Ethernet cable because of the auto MDI/MDI-X cable detection feature of the devices.
For the older models EZXS16W, EZXS88W, EZXS55W, EG008W, and EG005W use a
crossover Ethernet cable when connecting the switch to another switch and use a straight-
through cable when connecting the switch to a router or a computer.
