Important – Read This First • The Litter-Robot is not recommended for kittens, or small cats that weigh less than 5 lbs. • Always be sure that each cat in your household is heavy enough to activate the Cat Sensor before you let the LitterRobot operate in automatic mode. • Make sure the Litter-Robot is placed on a level firm surface. Placing the Litter-Robot on deep carpet may affect the sensitivity of the unit. • Do not put anything in the Globe other than clumping cat litter.
Introduction Thank you for purchasing Litter-Robot Open Air™, the selfcleaning litter box that really works! At Auto-Pets™ (Automated Pet Care Products, Inc.) we aim to develop products that keep your pets happy and make your life easier. This manual will help you get the most out of your Litter-Robot Open Air™. 5 Unpacking and Setting Up Your Litter-Robot Your Litter-Robot comes completely assembled and ready to use. Make sure box is right side up. 6 Reach down along the sides of the unit and find the hand holds on the base unit and lift the whole unit out of the box. The unit weighs 24 lbs. Try to avoid cutting open or damaging the outer box as you may need it later. Remove card board spacers between the Bonnet and Globe. If possible, place the Litter-Robot in the same location as the old litter box. Make sure the Litter-Robot is on a level, firm surface. 1. Fill the Globe with litter.
here, please contact us at support@litter-robot.com to make sure you are using a compatible litter. If you are filling the Litter-Robot with litter for the first time, we recommend that you do not switch litter brands at this time. Your cat/s need to get used to this new litter box and introducing a new litter may increase their level of apprehension and anxiety. However, if you are currently using a non-clumping litter you will need to switch to a clumping type litter.
2. Insert the small plug end of the AC/DC adapter cord into socket located in back of the Base unit. 3. Next, plug the AC/DC adapter into a wall outlet. 4. Locate and press the Power Button. The Litter-Robot will now perform an initialization cycle which will last approximately 2 1/2 minutes. After completing the cycle, the Globe should be in the Home position with the blue LED on.
can entice them to approach the Litter-Robot by using some catnip or their favorite treat. • Add a scoop of litter from the old litter pan. This provides a familiar scent for your cat. • Place treats on the ledge or around the Litter-Robot so that the cat associates rewards with the unit. • Since cats are curious and love to go into boxes, you might also try putting the original packaging over the Litter-Robot with a hole cut out for the entry and the drawer.

Red LED (Sensor/Timing) The red LED indicates that the Cat Sensor has been activated. The Litter-Robot will begin cycling with yellow LED on after three, seven or fifteen minutes depending on the setting. Default setting is seven minutes. Note If the Cat Sensor is tripped again within the set count-down period, the count-down timer resets. The Globe will not rotate until another three, seven or fifteen minutes have elapsed, depending on the setting.
The standard setting is for a seven minute count-down to be started when the cat leaves the Globe. At the end of the countdown the Litter-Robot will start its cleaning cycle. Any subsequent tripping of the Cat Sensor starts a new seven minute count-down, preventing the Globe from rotating with your cat inside. You can adjust this time setting by pressing and holding the Empty button for 5 seconds and then pressing the Reset button to toggle through the settings.
conditions such as a basement room without any windows. A light sensor located below and to the left of the Power Button turns the Night Light On and Off automatically. The Night Light function can be turned On and Off by pressing and holding the Power Button (see Control Panel - Buttons section -> Power Button, page 11). Bonnet The Bonnet functions as a cover and guard for the waste port as the Globe (and waste port) rotate from the top of the unit into the Base.
Internal Shield and Key The Internal Shield is located near the top, left side of the litter chamber or Globe. This shield provides a barrier between the working surfaces of the interior Globe and the interior space used by your cat/s. The position of the Internal Shield during cycling is controlled by the 'Key' located at the back of the Globe. Make sure the Key is positioned properly within the Base pocket.
The 8 hour period is repeated every 24 hours. The start of the 8 hour period is determined by when the mode was initially set. To start this mode, at the desired time, press and hold the Cycle button until the yellow LED lights up. Both yellow and blue LEDs will be lit now, and during the next 8 hours indicating the unit is in 8 Hour Sleep Mode. When the 8 hour period has expired, the unit will run a clean cycle. Once the Globe has returned to home position, only the blue LED will be on.
Control Panel Lockout The Control Panel Lockout feature prevents children (or your pet) from pressing the buttons and cycling the unit unnecessarily. However, the Litter-Robot will continue to function normally in the automatic mode. Press and hold the Reset button until the blue LED flashes indicating you have entered this mode. Press and hold the Reset button to exit this mode. The blue LED will flash indicating you have exited this mode.
12VDC, 1.2 Amp Hour Battery When power to the Litter-Robot is interrupted, the unit automatically switches to Battery Backup mode and is indicated by the Power button backlit with a yellow LED. Note that the Night Light function is disabled when in Battery Backup mode to conserve energy. Also note that the 8 Hour Sleep Mode timer will stop when power to the unit is interrupted and in Battery Backup mode. Toll Free: 877-250-7729 www.Litter-Robot.
Use and Care Installing Waste Drawer Liners Your Litter-Robot is shipped with a Waste Drawer Liner already installed - two extra Drawer Liners have been provided. The supplied Drawer Liners are made specifically for the Litter-Robot, however, any 8-13 gallon trash bag will also work well.
The carbon filter is not required for the unit to function and replacement frequency is based on personal preference, however one filter should last a few months under normal use. Replacement filter kits (3 filters in a kit) can be ordered from customer service at 877-250-7729 or visit our website www.litter-robot.com. Base Seal The Litter-Robot also comes equipped with a brush-type seal which helps to contain odors within the Waste Drawer and Base.
After removing all litter from the Globe, remove the Bonnet by pressing and releasing the latches on both sides of the Bonnet, then lift and rotate the Bonnet off of the globe and carefully set aside. Then simply lift and remove the Globe. You can use the waste port area as a handle. Clean the Globe with water and a mild soap. There are no electronic components in the Globe which can be damaged by soap and water.
2. Rotate Key at back of Globe into pocket of Base. The Key controls the motion of the internal Shield and needs to be in the Base pocket to function properly. 3. Find tabs at bottom and rear of Bonnet and align/insert tabs into small holes in Base. 4. Rotate Bonnet downward with light pressure on the sides such that Bonnet hugs the Globe. This will help to ensure proper alignment of Bonnet snaps with the slot openings in the Base.
1 2 With Bonnet removed, make sure Globe gear track is aligned in groove of Base Unit. Rotate Key into pocket in Base Unit. 4 3 Align and slide rear facing Tabs located on each side of the Bonnet into holes in Base Unit. Toll Free: 877-250-7729 Rotate Bonnet downward aligning Snap Tabs with corresponding slots in Base Unit. Continue sliding Bonnet downward into place, assuring Snap Tabs latch and Bonnet is secure. www.Litter-Robot.
Safety Features Globe Bonnet The Bonnet functions as a cover and guard for the waste port as the Globe (and waste port) rotates from the top of the unit into the Base. The Bonnet also provides a mount location for the Automatic Night Light, wires, and electrical terminals that provide a low and safe 5VDC to the Night Light. The Globe will not rotate without the Bonnet installed (see Control Panel - Indicator Lights section -> Yellow LED Flashing, page 16).
Internal Shield The Internal Shield provides a barrier between interior working surfaces of Globe and interior area used by your cat preventing waste and litter residue from coming into contact with your cat. Automatic Shut Off If the Globe becomes jammed or overloaded, the motor will stop and the Control Panel will display a yellow, then red LED blinking sequence. To reset the unit, follow these steps: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Frequently Asked Questions Will my cat actually go inside the Globe? Cats are generally curious and will investigate any new object. Cats that are already used to a covered litter box may be quicker to investigate. We recommend that the Litter-Robot be placed in the same location where the old litter box used to be. The old litter box can be left near the Litter-Robot for a short time. Take a cup of litter from the old litter box and add it to the clean litter in the Litter-Robot.
What if my cat won't use the Litter-Robot? If you and your cat are not completely satisfied, just return your Litter-Robot within 90 days of purchase for a full refund of the purchase price. Please note that you are responsible for return shipping costs. Please contact Customer Service to request a Return Authorization (RMA) number. Return shipments without an RMA number cannot be accepted.
Will the Globe turn while my cat is inside? No, the Globe will not turn while your cat is inside. The Cat Sensor is tripped each time a cat enters, or re-enters the Globe, resetting the count-down timer to prevent the cleaning cycle from starting for another seven minutes. What happens if the Globe jams? If the Globe jams or an excessive load condition occurs, the motor is turned off automatically. In addition, the LitterRobot is equipped with an anti-pinch safety device.
How often do I need to add litter? Experience shows that with two small cats (approx. 8 lbs. each), litter needs to be added about once a week, and sometimes it will last longer than that. The Litter-Robot uses litter very efficiently since the patented sifting mechanism only removes the clumps. Is dust a problem with the frequent rotation of the Globe and the movement of the litter? No, any dust is negligible since the Globe rotates very slowly.
What are the dimensions of the Litter-Robot? • • • • • The fully assembled Litter Robot is 29.5” high, 24.25” wide and 27” deep. The waste drawer is 12.5” wide, 16” long and 5” deep. The oval shaped entry for the cat is 15.5” high and 10 1/4” wide. The litter bed area measures 14” across at maximum litter capacity. There are 15 to 17” of head room for the cat inside the Globe depending on the level of litter. The inside width is 20” across at the widest point, and depth is 20” front to back.
