SAFETY GUIDELINES
MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE UNIT IS DISCONNECTED FROM
THE POWER SOURCE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO SERVICE
OR REMOVE ANY COMPONENT.
Do not use to pump flammable or explosive fluids such as gasoline,
fuel oil, kerosene, etc. Do not use in explosive atmospheres.
Pump should only be used with clean water. Do not use to pump
heated liquids. Pump should only be used with liquids compatible
with pump component material.
Do not handle pump with wet hands or when standing on a wet or
damp surface or in water.
This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and/or
grounding type attachment plug. To reduce the risk of electric
shock, be certain that it is connected to a properly grounded
grounding type receptacle.
Support pump and piping when assembling and when installed.
Failure to do so may cause piping to break, pump or motor to
fall, etc.
Do not allow children or infants to play near the fountain due to
drowning hazard.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
1. Check the pump label for proper voltage required. Do not
connect to voltage other than that shown.
2. This pump is supplied with a 3-prong electrical plug. The third
prong grounds the pump to prevent possible electrical shock
hazard. DO NOT REMOVE the third prong from the plug.
A separate branch circuit is recommended. Do not use an
extension cord.
3. The National Electric Code requires that a ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) be used in the branch circuit supplying
fountain pumps and other pond equipment.
4. To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only on portable, self-
contained fountains no larger than five feet in any dimension.
CONSULT THE PUMP INSTRUCTION SHEET ILLUSTRATIONS
FOR PROPER MAINTENANCE OF YOUR PUMP.
ASSEMBLY AND OPERATION
1. Consider the following needs of your fountain when determining
the appropriate location:
a. Enough space to create a hole approximately 10 inches
(0.25 m) deep and 36 inches (0.91 m) diameter, and will not
interfere with any buried utilities.
b. Utility needs of fountain:
i. 115 VAC/60 Hz power source within approximately
10 feet.
ii. Water source (garden hose) to periodically refill basin.
c. Existing landscape and the interaction of space.
2. Outline the basin and dig the hole for your basin (Fig. 3).
3. Place the basin in the hole and verify the following:
a. Top of basin is approximately at ground level (flush).
b. Top of basin is level in 2 directions: left to right, and front
to back. To correct non-level condition, remove basin and
spread sand in low-lying areas of hole. Replace basin and
measure again. Repeat until basin is leveled (Fig. 4).
c. Rotate basin to orient cord exit feature for expected routing
direction of pump power cord.
4. Backfill the basin. (Using stones or weight inside the basin will
help keep the basin in place during this step.) (Fig. 5)
5. Remove and clean all the debris from inside the basin.
6. Screw four brackets to bottom surface of fountain (Fig. 6); use
the load bearing center column as a guide. Carefully center
column on fountain, then place a bracket in each corner as
shown (Fig. 7). DO NOT ATTACH TO THE COLUMN.
7. Place center column inside the basin, ensuring it is positioned
in the circular groove at bottom of basin, and oriented with
the feature shown in the figure (Fig. 8 and Fig. 9). Rotate the
column until it drops into place.
8. Prepare your fountain pump by following the instructions and
illustration below (Fig. 1).
a. Remove pump from its carton.
b. Read the instruction sheet shipped with the pump. Pay
particular attention to all caution and warning statements.
Retain document for future reference.
c. Remove the discharge adaptor that is shipped with the pump.
d. It is optional to remove suction cup bracket from pump.
e. Thread the fitting shown into the pump’s discharge port.
f. Study the FLOW and orientation symbols on check valve
body. Then slip the check valve over the fitting for a snug
fit (Fig. 1).
9. Attach rubber grommet to flexible pipe about 1” from end
and squeeze through the bottom of the fountain. A flat screw
driver may help with inserting the grommet until it is at least
½” beyond the bottom (Fig. 10 and Fig. 11).
10. Slowly place fountain on center column, while routing flexible
pipe through central opening of column.
