Building American Quality… With A Lifetime Warranty!
Composite Shifter Knobs Only
General Installation Notes:
Please read these instructions completely before beginning the
installation. If you have any questions please call.
Before beginning the installation, disconnect the negative
battery cable and use wheel chocks to block the vehicle's
wheels.
Lokar recommends using anti-seize lubricant on all aluminum
threads.
Refer to Fig. 1 for the component names.
Lokar Manual Transmission Shifter Knobs are designed
to fit shifter levers with 3/8"-16 or 3/8"-24 thread patterns.
Lokar's Composite Shifter Knobs come with both sizes of
thread reducers and jam nuts. Lokar's Aluminum Shifter
Knobs do not come with thread reducers and must be
purchased specifically for one thread pattern or the other.
Step 1: If there is an existing shifter knob already installed and
your original shifter lever has a jam nut, turn the jam nut
clockwise to loosen it. Then, remove the shifter knob
and jam nut.
If your existing shifter lever does not have a jam nut,
simply remove the existing knob.
Step 2: If the Shifter Knob you are installing did not come with
thread reducers, skip to Step 3.
If the Shifter Knob you are installing came with thread
reducers, determine which thread reducer has the
correct thread to fit your shifter lever. Discard the thread
reducer that doesn't fit your shifter lever.
Apply thread locking compound to the threads on the
outside of the thread reducer. Install the thread reducer
into the Shifter Knob, and thread it in so that the bottom of
the thread reducer is flush with the bottom of the threaded
insert that is pressed into the Shifter Knob. Fig. 2
Give the thread locking compound enough time to
harden before proceeding to Step 3.
Step 3: Make sure the shifter boot is in place on the shifter lever.
Install the jam nut that matches the thread on your shifter
lever, and thread it down until it bottoms out. Discard the jam
nut that does not fit your shifter lever.
Step 4: Install the Shifter Knob onto the shifter lever. Thread it all the
way down until it bottoms out against the jam nut. Then, back
it off just enough to line up the shift pattern where you want it.
Step 5: Turn the jam nut counterclockwise and tighten it against the
bottom of the Shifter Knob (or the thread reducer).
See Fig. 3 for a completed installation.
