INSTRUCTION SHEET #IS-ES4RIB-ES6RIB
Ceiling Speaker Rough-In Bridges
Mounting Note: The rough-in bridges and enclosures must be mounted
in accordance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations, and
industry standard practices.
Rough-in for Speaker Systems with conduit.
On a construction project with a new drywall ceiling where the cable will run in flexible or
fixed conduit, a speaker rough-in bridge and enclosure with conduit knockouts must be installed
before the drywall ceiling is installed. The Lowell ES-4T-LE and ES-62T-LE speaker systems
(that don’t include enclosures) are available so a rough-in bridge and enclosure accessory can
be installed before the drywall ceiling is installed, and the speaker system can then be installed
after the drywall has been installed and painted.

Rough-in for Speaker Systems without conduit.
The ES-4-RIB rough-in bridge shown (for use with the Lowell ES4T or ES4T-LE recessed
ceiling speakers) and the ES-6-RIB (for use with the Lowell ES62T or ES62T-LE recessed
ceiling speakers) include 3/16" diameter mounting holes on sixteen (16) inch centers and
twenty-four (24) inch centers for mounting to the joists, rafters, trusses, metal rails, or other
ceiling support structure before the drywall ceiling is installed. Screw types required to mount
the bridge to the ceiling structure vary widely depending on the construction of the ceiling
structure so mounting screws are not included and will be supplied by the installer.
Mount the bridge to the ceiling structure with the lip downward toward the floor. Install speaker
cable and leave a loop above the rough-in bridge where it will be accessible after the ceiling
has been installed. When the ceiling contractor installs the drywall, the lip on the rough-in
bridge will be used as a router guide to cut-out the hole in the ceiling at the location you have
predetermined.

The ES-8XD4 enclosure (sold separately for use with the ES-4T-LE speaker system)
includes 4) 8-32 X 0.75" bolts. To prepare the rough-in assembly, position the ES-8XD4
enclosure on a work surface with the bolting holes facing upward.

The ES-4-RIB rough-in bridge and ES-8XD4 assembly shown (for use with the Lowell
ES4T-LE recessed ceiling speaker) includes 3/16" diameter mounting holes on sixteen (16)
inch centers and twenty-four (24) inch centers for mounting to the joists, rafters, trusses, metal
rails, or other ceiling support structure before the drywall ceiling is installed. Screw types
required to mount the bridge/enclosure assembly to the ceiling structure vary widely depending
on the construction of the ceiling structure so mounting screws are not included and will be
supplied by the installer. Mount the bridge/enclosure to the ceiling structure with the lip
downward toward the floor. Attach conduit to one or more of the ½”-¾” combination knock-outs
in the enclosure and install speaker cable as required. When the ceiling contractor installs the
drywall, the lip on the rough-in bridge will be used as a router guide to cut-out the hole in the
ceiling at the location that you have predetermined.
The same procedure described above would be used to rough in for the ES-62T-LE
speaker system using the ES-6-RIB rough-in bridge and the ES-CP84 enclosure assembled as
shown.

Place the ES-4-RIB rough-in bridge on top of the ES-8XD4 enclosure with the lip on the
ES-4-RIB facing upward and with the 4 holes lined up with the 4) threaded Tinnerman clips on
the enclosure. Use the 4) 8-32 X 0.75" bolts to attach the bridge to the enclosure as shown.
UL Listing: The UL Listing referred to on the product labels is only valid if the ES-4-RIB
rough-in bridge is used with a Lowell ES-8XD4 enclosure and an ES4T-LE speaker
system or if the ES-6-RIB rough-in bridge is used with a Lowell ES-CP84 enclosure and
an ES62T-LE speaker system.
