Ganging and derating
Ganging is the mounting of two or more
dimmers or accessory devices side-by-side
under a multi-gang wallplate. When you
combine two or more dimmers, you may
need to derate the power rating and remove
a portion of the dimmer beneath the wallplate.
See pg. 170 for details.
Lighting load interfaces
To dim larger loads on a single dimmer, you can
use a power interface. Interfaces require 3-wire
dimmers and may require additional power feeds
from distribution panels. See pg. 174 for details.
Screw-based Compact Fluorescent
Lighting (CFL)
Screw-based CFL lamps offer energy efficiency
and long life, but typically many of them do
not dim.
CFL loads are quantified in Watts (W).
Dimmable to about 30% perceived light with
similar energy savings.
Lutron offers dimmers designed specifically for
Philips Energy Saver DIMMABLE CFL lamps, see
Diva (pg. 86) and Skylark (pg. 104) families for
available models.
