Fountain Pump – Flow Rate Tips
1. Turn off the fountain's water pump by unplugging the electrical pump cord from the electrical
outlet.
Option: Disconnect the electrical cord from the electrical outlet, or you can turn the power off at
the breaker box for safety. You can use a noncontact voltage tester to verify that no electricity is
flowing to the pump.
2. Next, locate the water pump's input control which is typically located on the bottom of the
pump, or near the bottom on the back or sides.
The flow rate input control can be a switch that moves up or down. It usually will have several
flow choices that fall between Fast (F) and Slow (S).
It can also be a dial that you click to turn to various speeds. Some dials require using a flat-heat
screwdriver to adjust the dial.
3. You can change the dial to a lower speed, moving it one or two notches. A slight change in the
water pressure can sometimes cause a dramatic difference in the fountain's output, so it might
take a bit of trial and error to find the right speed.
4. Put the pump back in place and plug it in or turn on the circuit breaker.
5. Repeat the process as necessary to find the correct speed for your fountain.
6. Another option for slowing the flow rate is use a worm drive clamp. Gently tighten a worm drive
clamp around the flexible tube that brings water into the pump. Make sure this is done without
damaging the tube. Close it enough so that the water flow is restricted but not so much that the
water flow stops. Loosen or tighten the clamp as needed to get the desired flow rate.
