Configuring the Reader
5-10 Configuration and Operation
To check the Exciter’s current settings including its serial number, do the following:
POWER:QUERY:EXCITER n<Enter>
ESN<Enter>
EVT<Enter> - returns the value of threshold in Volts
EVA<Enter> - returns the TAP signal value in Volts
Note The value of Group E parameters is valid only after a successful :POWER:QUERY:EXCITER
command. Note that the default value of these parameters (after the Reader reset) is set to
unrealistic value so that the user does not think that these are actual Exciter settings (refer to RFID
System S21 Reference Guide).
In orger to set the Exciter TAP voltage, instead of using the :CONFIG:EXCITER n command as
described above, the user can iteratively do the following:
NVX=some value<Enter>
POWER:MATCH:EXCITER n<Enter>
POWER:QUERY:EXCITER n<Enter>
EVA<Enter> - returns the TAPsignal value in Volts
The LF field strength in the Exciter is set by a digital potentiometer. The NVX parameter
directly sets its wiper position. This position will result in a certain LF field strength specific to
this particular Exciter. The actual field strength can then be checked by querying the EVA
parameter. This procedure can be useful , for example, if the user wants to quickly set the
Exciter to generate the maximum or minimum level of field.
Configuring the Reader
The Reader’s receiving configuration is controlled by the following group of parameters:
• Data buffering/reporting configuration - Group D parameters
• Hardware configuration - Group H parameters
• Instrument generic configuration - Group I parameters
• Tag data reading configuration - Group R parameters
For more information on these parameters, see the RFID System S21 Reference Guide and the
RFID System S21 Technical Guide.
Note You can set these parameters for each particular application to optimize the functionality of the
Reader and the RFID System.
Setting Up the Carrier Threshold
Warning Before starting this procedure, you have to enable the auto-report mode for the reader and set the
data report in ASCII format, by typing the following:
DAR=Y<Enter>
