Troubleshooting 7-5
2.3. After the
power-on test is
finished, the sign-
on message is
displayed on the
PC, but the
DATA LED is
not flashing when
a Transponder is
activated.
2.3.1. The carrier threshold
value is too high.
1. Check the ambient noise level (HNL parameter).
The noise shoud not be higher than -95dBm. Type
HNL several times to ensure that ambient noise
does not change over time. If the noise is higher
than -95dBm, it means that there is a jammer. In that
case, go to Step 7.
2. Make sure that RSS value is in between 10 and 20
(may vary depending on application).
3. Run the procedure, S21 RFID System - Final Test on
page 5-18. Step 2 - Set up the Carrier Threshold for
the Reader.
4. Check the reception with a reference Transponder.
5. If not successful, check the noise level reported by
the Reader with and without UHF antennas
connected. If the noise level is identical or varies
slightly (±1 dBm), replace the Reader.
6. If the Reader reports a channel noise level below -
95dBm, but you are still not receiving the
Transponders’ messages, check the noise level
reported by the Reader with and without UHF
antennas connected. If the noise level is identical or
varies slightly (±1 dBm), replace the Reader.
7. Investigate from where the unwanted transmission
is coming. It could be Exciter Tag or some other
Tags in close proximity or an external transmitter.
8. If the unwanted transmission is impossible to
eliminate, refer to Chapter 4, Setup Guidelines in
the RFID System S21 Technical Guide.
