Reader Hardware Calibration Procedure E-1
Appendix E
Reader Hardware Calibration Procedure
This appendix describes the procedures for storing and resetting the calibration data in the Reader
RD21 (P/N 600002). This procedure must only be used in a controlled lab environment.
When first manufactured, certain calibration parameters (special parameters) are stored in a
permanent memory location in the Reader. Once stored, these parameters are not affected by the
:CONFIG:DEFAULT, :CONFIG:REVERT commands or firmware upgrades. Neither can they be
manually changed. These are board specific parameters and as such should remain untouched for
the service life of the board.
The special parameter group includes:
HV0, HV1, HD0, HD1, ISN and ISC.
For detailed explanations refer to the RFID System S21 Reference Guide.
Introducing Special
Parameters
When REC21 board is powered up for the first ime (during manufacturing), the Data LED starts
flashing with a 1sec interval. This flashing indicates that special parameters are not stored. All
special parameters must be set to the proper values for the board to be operational.
Introduce all special parameters, when done, the Data LED stops blinking. At this point the service
person must carefully check for any typos or wrong values. If an error occured when introducing a
parameter, the Reader has to be reset and all
special parameter values reintroduced anew.
After making sure that all calibration parameters are correct and Data LED is OFF and not blinking,
send
::CONFIG:HW<Enter>
This finalizes the permanent storage of calibration (special) parameters.
Notes In certain special cases, it could be neccessary to change the calibration values set at production
time. To return the Reader to the pre-production state, do the following:
1. Turn OFF Reader’s power.
2. Press and hold down the Reset Button on the Motherboard.
3. Turn ON Reader’s power without releasing the Reset Button.
4. Wait 7sec and release the Reset Button.
5. Make sure that the Data LED is now flickering at a 1Hz rate.
6. Go to Introducing Special Parameters.
