y Peak Meter
These meters display the instantaneous peak level of audio being sent to the AES16e input selected by the
Input Source Select buttons.
u Mute
This button enables the mute function for the associated input.
i Dither
This button enables dithering for the associated input. The Record Dither Type control in the Settings menu
determines the type of dither applied to the input. The Dither function is on by default, but is only active
when an application requests a recording bit depth of less than 24-bits. This can be overridden with the
Depth control pulldown menu.
Dither is useful for improving signal fidelity when reducing the bit depth of incoming data from 24 bits to
20, 16, or 8 bits.
o Depth
This control sets the bit depth used for recording on each input. The options are 8 bit, 16 bit, 20 bit, 24 bit,
and Auto. When Auto is selected, the bit depth is set according to the sample format requested by an
application accessing the record device. For example, if the sample format is 16 Bit Stereo, the bit depth
will be set to 16 bit.
1) Record Dropout
This status indicator represents the number of audio dropouts that have occurred during recording on a
record device. Dropouts can produce audible glitches in audio files. They are typically caused by a
computer’s inability to process data from the AES16e fast enough. The indicator is reset at the start of
recording or on initialization of the driver when using the ASIO driver model . When a dropout has
occurred, the background for this box will turn Red.
1! Record Sample Format (Windows Only)
This status indicator represents the sample format of a recording device. The format, which is set by an
application accessing the device, determines the format of the data sent to the host computer for storage or
processing. The sample format indicates bit depth and mono, stereo, or multi-channel modes. In the case of
32 bit formats, the lower eight bits are set to zero. With ASIO application, the bit depth will be reported as
“ASIO” whereas the actual bit depth of the recorded files would need to be established from within the
ASIO recording application.
