2.5.3 - ESC Calibration:
InamultirotorUAV,eachmotorisconnectedtoitsownelectronicspeedcontroller(“ESC”),whichisthenconnectedtotheflight
controller.TheESCsdonot“know”therangeofvalueswhichtheywillreceivefromthecontrolleraseachcontrollerisdifferent.
CalibratingtheESCsprovidesnewmin/maxthrottlevaluesandwillalsoensurethatallmotorsstartsimultaneously.
1. ConnectoneofthemotorstooneoftheESCs(itdoesn’tmatterifyouconnectthemotorinclockwiseor
counterclockwisemode)
2. ConnecttheESC’sRCcablestoyourreceiver’sthrottlechannel.
3. TurnONyourtransmitterandpushyourthrottlesticktothehighest(max)position.
4. ConnectthebatterytoyourESC’spowerinput
5. Youwillhear3beepscomingfromthemotor(confirmingmaxpositionhasbeenset),thenwait1sforashortbeepto
indicateit’snowwaitingforminvalue.
6. Immediatelylowerthethrottlesticktotheminimumposition
7. Youwillhear2beepsthatconfirmtheminimumvaluehasbeenset
8. Ifyouhearalongbeep,itmeanstheminimumthrottlevaluehasbeenset.Ifnot,youwillneedtostarttheprocedure
againfromstep2
9. DisconnectthereceiverandthebatteryfromtheESC
10. Setasidethatmotor+ESCcombination
11. Repeatsteps2to11foreachESC+motor
2.5.4 - Arming Test
PerformanARMtestbut,makesureyouhaveyourpropellersREMOVEDbeforedoingit.Thiscanbedangerousiftheystart
turning.ToARMaMultiWiiflightcontrolleryouneedto:
● HavetheAccelerometercalibrated
● Beonalevelsurface(statusLEDwillflashifyou’renot)
● HavetheEndPointssetright
● Usetheright“StickCommands”
MultiWiiArmingStickCommands
Note:AtthisstageyoushouldalwaysperformtestswiththepropellersREMOVED.
2.5.5 - Flight Modes
Ifyourtransmitterhasmorethanfourchannels,theRCControlSettingstabgivesyoucontroloverwhichauxiliarychannelsonyour
transmittercontrolswhichflightmodes.Noticehowmultipleboxescanbeselected.Thisapproachgivesthemostoptionspossible,
thoughbesurenottohaveconflictinginformation/settings.
● Greenboxesmeanthefieldisselected
● Nobordermeansthatthefieldsarebeingreadfromtheboard(alreadywritten)
● Orangeborderindicatesthatthefieldwaschangedbutnotwrittentotheboard
AuxiliarychannelsareassociatedwithtwoorthreewayswitchesorpotentiometerinputsfromyourTransmitter.
● L:Low,correspondingtoasignalof500(switchdown,orknobfullycounterclockwise)
● M:Medium,correspondsto1500(centerpositionofathreewayswitch,ormidrotationonaknob.Doesnotapplytoor
workona2wayauxiliaryswitch)
● H:High,correspondsto2500(switchuporknobfullyclockwise).
