Stripping length
The required stripping length for every
Weidmüller product is stated in mm.
These lengths must be observed so that
the creepage and clearance paths are not
reduced by improper connection.
Assembly
Assembly is carried out on Type TS 32
mounting rails to EN 50 035. TS 35 to EN
50 022 or TS 15 to EN 50 045.
End plate
The last terminal in a rail-mounted
assembly must be closed with an end
plate. The end plate is held in position by
the end bracket.
Partition
Depending on the operating voltage, a
partition must be placed between adjacent
cross-connection groups. This is neces-
sary in order to maintain the required
creepage and clearance paths.
Small partition
Small partitions can be inserted between
cross-connections or sockets after
assembly in terminal blocks with a max
terminal width of 12 mm.
Cover plates
Several VDE regulations require that line
(mains) terminals be labelled. For this
purpose Weidmüller provides a range of
cover plates printed with a warning arrow
and the international danger symbol. A
warning arrow and the words “Danger
Voltage” is printed on the reverse side.
The cover plates are affixed to the terminal
blocks with plastic screws. Cover plates
are available for 3 and 4-way terminals.
Cross-connections
Cross connection systems of the SAK and
AKZ Series type Q. QL or VL or other
freely accessible live components have to
be protected by appropriate ADP 1 to 4 or
TSK 31.5 covers when they need to be
touch-proof.
Frequently, several terminal blocks have to
be interconnected in conducting fashion in
order to be able to create current
branches. As the terminal point usually
needs to remain free for the conductor
connection, a cross-connection bridge is
inserted in the middle. Where cross-
connections of varying potential are
arranged side-by-side, partition plates,
end cover plates or small partitions must
be used to maintain the rated voltage.
Cross-connection bridges can normally
carry half the rated terminal block current.
Weidmüller distinguished between the
following cross-connection units.
• pre-assembled Type Q cross-
connections
• fixed Type QL cross-connections
• removable Type VL cross-connection
straps
• removable Type QS cross-connection
plugs
Sockets
In place of cross-connections, sockets can
be fitted to accept test or short-circuit
plugs.
Test plugs
2, 3 and 4 mm diameter test plugs are
available for measurement and test
operations.
Labelling
The incoming and outgoing lines can be
labelled using various marking systems,
e.g. dekafix, snap-on tags, etc.
Safe testing of wired terminal blocks is a
basic pre-condition for failure-free
operation. WTA ..., STA..., and ATA test
adapter systems for the individual terminal
block families are not only characterised
by quick and easy handling, but also offer
other advantages:
• “conductor decoupling” between test
prod and test conductor prevents the
test prod from moving through pull
exerted on the test conductor (except
WTA5/... and ATA).
• spring-load test contacts ensure reliable
connection and low contact resistance
• locating hooks on both sides ensure firm
seating on terminals, even with cross-
connections fitted.
• modular concept enables arrangement
of individual “test units”.
• single-pole test adapters can be
interconnected; sturdy strain-relief
devices and clear marking options
complements the systems.
The customary Sockets can also be used
and test tee-off can take place via spring-
loaded test plugs. This option exists even
with cross-connection fitted.
