SIDE CLEARANCE CHECK
Refer to Figure 5-72.
1. Low Limit — Insert a 0.002-inch (0.051 mm)
thickness gauge between side of gears and
housing. Gauge should pass between gears
and housing without drag. If it drags, check
housing and gears for nicks or burrs.
Replace as necessary.
2. High Limit — Insert a 0.006-inch (0.152 mm)
thickness gauge between gears and
housing. Gauge should not pass through.
If gauge passes through, replace housing.

BACKLASH CHECK
Refer to Figure 5-73.
1. Check backlash between driving gear (3)
and driven gear (2) with thickness gauge (1).
a. Low Limit — Insert a 0.013-inch
(0.33 mm) thickness gauge (1)
between pump driven gear (2) and
pump driving gear (3). Gauge should
pass between gears without binding. If
binding occurs, check for nicks or burrs.
Replace as necessary.
b. High Limit — Insert a 0.028-inch
(0.711 mm) thickness gauge (1)
between pump driven gear (2) and
pump driving gear (3). Gauge should
not pass through. If gauge passes
through, replace gears.
