I n st a lla t ion 2 .3 W ir in g t h e I n ve r t e r – Ge n e r a l Re qu ir e m e n t s This sect ion describes t he requirem ent s and recom m endat ions for wiring t he CMW3012H invert er. Read all inst ruct ions before wiring t he invert er. The NEC ( Nat ional Elect ric Code, ANSI / NFPA 70) for t he Unit ed St at es and t he CEC ( Canadian Elect rical Code) for Canada provide t he st andards for safely wiring resident ial and com m ercial inst allat ions.
I n st a lla t ion 2 .4 D C W ir in g This sect ion describes t he invert er’s required DC wire sizes, t he recom m ended disconnect / overcurrent prot ect ion, and how t o m ake t he DC connect ions t o t he invert er and t he bat t ery bank. W ARN I N G: Ev en t hough DC v olt age can be r egar ded as “ low volt age” , signifi cant hazards m ay be present , part icularly from short circuit s of t he bat t ery syst em .
I n st a lla t ion 2 .4 .1 D C W ir e Sizin g I t is im port ant t o use t he correct sized DC wire t o achieve m axim um effi ciency from t he syst em and t o reduce fi re hazards associat ed wit h overheat ing. Always keep your wire runs as short as pract ical t o prevent low volt age shut downs and t o keep t he DC breaker from nuisance t ripping ( or open fuses) because of increased current draw.
I n st a lla t ion Because bat t eries can deliver t housands of am ps in an inst ant during a short , a DC- rat ed fuse ( or circuit breaker) t hat has an AI C ( Am ps I nt errupt ing Current ) rat ing t hat can wit hst and t he short - circuit current wit hout explosion or dam age is required t o be inst alled. I f a fuse is used as an overcurrent device, a Class- T t ype or equivalent is highly recom m ended when used wit h invert ers.
I n st a lla t ion I n fo: DO NOT connect t he DC wires from t he bat t ery bank t o t he invert er unt il 1) all DC wiring is com plet e, 2) t he correct DC overcurrent prot ect ion has been inst alled, and 3) t he correct DC volt age and polarit y have been verifi ed. Depending upon t he volt age of t he bat t eries ( 6 or 12 VDC) , t he bat t eries m ust be wired in series, parallel, or series- parallel t o provide t he correct volt age ( see Appendix A) .
I n st a lla t ion 2 .4 .6 W ir in g t h e I n ve r t e r t o t h e Ba t t e r y Ba n k CAUTI ON : The invert er is NOT reverse polarit y prot ect ed—if t he posit ive t erm inal of t he bat t ery is connect ed t o t he negat ive t erm inal of t he invert er and vice versa, severe dam age t o t he invert er will occur and t his will void t he warrant y. Before connect ing t he DC wires from t he bat t eries t o t he invert er, verify t he correct bat t ery volt age and polarit y using a volt m et er.
I n st a lla t ion 2 .5 AC W ir in g This sect ion provides inform at ion on how t o hardwire AC out put connect ions t o t he invert er using t he correct AC wire size and overcurrent prot ect ion. 2 .5 .1 Pr e - AC W ir in g Re qu ir e m e n t s W ARN I N G: DO NOT connect t he invert er’s out put t o an AC power source.
