2. Raised Hearth Extension and Raised Fire-

place

Non-combustible ooring a minimum of 16 in. (406 mm)

in front of and 8 in. (203 mm) to each side of replace

opening of the SA36R. 20 in. (508 mm) in front and 12

in. (305 mm) to each side of the SA42R is required.

The hearth framing must be constructed of non-com-

bustible materials (such as metal framing or equivalent

material) and placed on HX3(s), HX4(s), or equivalent

material. See Figure 7.8.

When creating the platform, allow for the thickness

of the non-combustible nishing materials.

Seal gaps between the hearth extension and the front

of the replace with a bead of non-combustible sealant

or grout.
