ULTRASOUND
Sound waves require a medium - gas, air or a liquid - to travel at differ-
ent speeds. If a sound is produced by a loudspeaker, the loudspeaker
membrane causes the surrounding air to vibrate.
The air pressure changes in the rhythm of the membrane oscillation.
This air pressure fluctuation spreads in all directions. The velocity of
propagation in air is approx. 343 m/s (1,235 km/h).
The frequency of the oscillation indicates how often the air pressure
fluctuates per second. The corresponding unit is Hertz (Hz). A high tone
has a high frequency, a low tone a low frequency.
The sound audible to humans is in the range between 16 Hz and 20,000
Hz (20 kHz).
Infrasound is located below the 16 Hz limit. This is often caused by
explosions or thunder, for example.
Frequencies above 20 kHz are referred to as ultrasound. These are audi-
ble to animals, for example.
The ultrasonic egg operates at a frequency of 40 kHz.
THE BOARD
The circuit board contains an ultrasonic transmitter (oscillator) and a
powerful amplifier. You will connect all other components - ultrasonic
transducers, LEDs, adjustable resistors and the battery to this.
WIRE AND PLASTIC PLUGS
A long wire and fourteen plastic plugs allows for the right connections.
The plugs fit into the 4 mm holes of the board on which you can clamp
wires and connections of the LED and trim pot on the side.
Depending on the circuit layout, cut the wire into suitable pieces, strip-
ping off the ends.
TWO ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCERS
One of the converters is called 40T. It's what you need to transmit ultra-
sound. The other transducer is called 40R. It receives ultrasound. The con-
verters have two connections. The connection, which is directly connected
to the metal housing, is usually connected to the GND when installed on
the board. GND corresponds to the minus pole of the battery.
LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED)
The LED is connected with plastic plugs to the spot provided on the cir-
cuit board. It has two connections. The shorter connector is located on
the flattened side of the LED housing. It is connected to the GND.
