Shelf Installation
Note: If you bought an unfinished mantel shelf, we recommend completing any finishing before
installation.
Step 1 - Place and level shelf at the desired height on the wall and lightly draw a line along the top of
the shelf and at the ends as shown below. You'll likely need someone to help you hold the shelf up while
outlining.
Mark where shelf will install
Marks on wall
Step 2 Find the position of the studs in the wall and mark where they are located. Now make a mark 2 3/8"
below the line used to mark the top of the shelf. The bottom edge of the metal mounting cleat (bottom has
holes) should be lined up with this mark. Make sure the mounting cleat is centered between the two shelf end
marks and level. Screw the 3" wood screws through the bottom holes and into the studs to mount the metal
cleat.
If mounting the cleat to masonry wall (e.g brick), first drill 3 holes with your 3/16" masonry bit. Mount the
cleat with the 3" masonry screws (have hex heads) using a 5/16" nut driver.
Step 3 – Slide the shelf over the metal cleat mounted on the wall and press down firmly until the shelf is
secure.
